Swift has replaced its various dealer-special editions of Sprite with one range, called Sprite Exclusive, and has made it available to just a selected number of retailers. It’s a bold move. Which is why we wanted to take a close look at the range.
There are layouts in the range that you may be familiar with – and one that is completely new. That’s the Quattro MB Exclusive.
It sleeps six. Its layout offers family versatility. It has a cosy rear bedroom, and it has the road stability enhancement of twin axles.
The Sprite Quattro MB Exclusive is one of 12 Sprite Exclusive models that are now arriving at retailer’s premises. We went to Leisure Sales, in Cheshire, just after the first of the Sprite Exclusives had arrived there, to find out more.
There are two two-berth layouts. And five four berths. Plus five family tourers.
First to catch your eyes are the two-tone – pale grey and white – side panels with rich terracotta and dark grey graphics that set Exclusives apart from the standard Sprites. As you step inside the Exclusives, their interior colour scheme is sure to impress, too. It has pale grey seating, and, providing the accent colour for this range, four cushions. Two of them are a pleasant mid-blue colour; the other two having the same blue shade melded with a pale fawn sand shade, in a pattern reminiscent of waves on a seashore. Small things count in the overall exclusive picture, like the word Exclusive which appears on the mirror above the washbasin and is embroidered into the doormat.
Sprite Exclusives’ specification enhancements compared with standard Sprites include wireless phone charging capability. They also have extra lighting, notably under the pelmets in the lounge; this elevates the lounge look considerably. Alarms with key fob operation are part of the kit, too, as are 120W solar panels, plus a barbecue point and an exterior mains socket. Importantly, these caravans also have the ATC stability control system that applies the caravan brakes automatically if the system detects the first sign of a swaying motion induced, perhaps, by high wind. It’s a comprehensive package.
We picked the twin-axle MB as an example of the range, simply because it’s a completely new model. So, we needed to explore the layout and its all-important size and weight statistics.
It has three sleeping areas, and two dining areas. It’s 7.98m long. Yet has an MTPLM of only 1,687kg, rendering it a good match for a wide range of towcars.
While most caravan layouts conform broadly to patterns, the MB has a layout like no other. The unique element is the design of the rear bedroom, with a bed aligned across the caravan, against the rear wall.
It has an L-shaped lounge – and that’s where the versatility that we mentioned earlier begins. The sofa that stretches along the front can be used as a single bed – or the entire seating area can be transformed into a double bed, by pulling out a slatted base from under the front sofa. The two-person dining area on the offside offers flexibility, too; it can either form a single bed, or two bunks. And at the rear, the lovely cosy bedroom creates a space that would, of course, be ideal for parents – but would equally be perfect for a teenager who wants their own space (complete with a bracket for a television). So the MB can be regarded as a caravan that is suitable for a family with older children just as much as its obvious appeal to families with young children.
The front double bed is nice and large at just over 2m long and 1.27m wide. The offside single bed is 1.8m long and 62cm wide. The upper bunk is slightly smaller, at 1.76m long and 59cm wide. The rear double bed is 2m long and1.3cm wide at the widest point, tapering to 1.09m to allow for plenty of floor space.
Two USB sockets are in bedroom, two are by the television points, one is set into the wireless charger pad, and two are set into the underside of the lounge top lockers.
And the kitchen? There’s a 29cm wide surface area on the right-hand side of the sink, and a 36cm by 34cm extension to hinge into position when you need it. Although this comes across the doorway, there is enough space to walk in and out. The sink, at 38cm in diameter and 10cm deep, is easily large enough to cope with the washing-up needs of six diners.
The microwave is above the kitchen surface, alongside the two top cabinets that are each 37cm wide. There’s a 70cm-wide double-doored cabinet with a drawer of the same width (containing a cutlery tray) above it, plus a cabinet for pans under the oven. So, storage space meets the needs of family catering. And the fridge is Thetford’s 142-litre fridge with a 15-litre freezer compartment.
One of the many things that we like about this caravan is the way in which the lounge is separated from the two-person dining area, by a 28cm-wide cabinet that sits between the two, creating an obvious division between the areas.
The table sits on a monopod base that fits into a metal recess, and, when not in use, slides into its own cabinet on the nearside fore end of the bedroom.
The showering facilities are amidships, immediately forward of the bedroom. We like the spaciousness of the washbasin/toilet compartment that sits on the offside, opposite the shower. There’s plenty of shelving, in addition to a cabinet under the washbasin. We also like the decor in the shower cubicle; all three walls are clad in marble effect – pale grey on the side walls and dark brown on the rear wall.
Our Verdict
The new Sprite Exclusive range brings to the market 12 outstanding looking caravans, with grey sides, terracotta graphics and blue interior accent colours – and a spec list that elevates these Sprites above the budget terrain traditionally associated with the marque. Discontinuing individual dealer special ranges for 2025 is a daring sea change, and, while the move – perhaps inevitably – hasn’t met with universal retail network praise, it has definitely produced a range of caravans that provide the market with a first-rate package. Exclusives, in spec terms, value and visually, are everything you would expect from a dealer special.
