Freedom Wayfarer Quad

A four-berth caravan for just £14,995; super-lightweight and with a comfortable U-shaped lounge

It’s many years since you could buy a new family caravan for less than £15,000. With the arrival of the Freedom Wayfarer Quad, once again, you can. This new ultra-lightweight, compact four-berth’s £14,995 price tag puts it in a class of its own.

The Freedom Wayfarer is a new venture for the Pollsh company which makes the glass-fibre-body Freedom range that first came to the UK in 1974. Wayfarers are of sandwich construction, with aluminium sides. 

There are two models in the range: the Duet (a two-berth) and this one, the Quad, with a door at the rear. Both are imported and sold by Freedom Caravans of Staffordshire.

We caught up with the Quad during its 2025 promotional tour; Freedom Caravans took it to the Glasgow show and then to the NEC, where we observed that it, and its rear door concept, was grabbing plenty of attention.

The Quad has U-shaped seating (that makes into a double bed measuring 1.90m by 1.18m) and two fixed bunks. 

The kitchen – equipped with two burners and a small fridge – is on the nearside, opposite the bunks. To the rear of the kitchen is the toilet compartment. This contains a bench-style toilet with a mirrored cabinet and a tip-up basin.

As standard, the Wayfarer Quad does not have a heater or water heater – buyers can upgrade to include either or both of those. The optional space heater is an electric plinth model that integrates with the base of one of the settees. It costs £475. The water heater option is a Propex model – again electric – and costs £895. It is possible to have a shower fitted, as the toilet compartment is complete with a shower tray. 

The seating feels supportive and comfortable. And there’s a cosy feel about the lounge. The absence of knee rolls and shaped backrests means that, when you transform the seating into a double bed, it makes a completely flat mattress.

Woodwork is a pleasing mid brown shade with a prominent grain. Seat backs are pale cream and bases are grey; a simple, modern look. 

Storage, for such a compact caravan, is reasonably practical. Slim lockers are above the lounge; one runs across the entire width of the caravan; two are on one side and there is an open shelf on the other. There’s a locker above the kitchen and a slim cabinet alongside the 50-litre fridge (operated on mains electricity, and 12V when towing).

Nice touches are exterior lights on the rear and the offside, and strips of light set into the lower edges of the top lockers around the lounge.

As a first step into caravanning, the Wayfarer ticks a lot of boxes, especially those labelled ‘low price’ and ‘light weight’. At just 850kg MTPLM, the Quad’s range of compatible towcars is huge.
