Description

It’s rare to see the invention of a completely new caravan layout – and Sprite has done just that, with the arrival of the DB. And Sprite, the brand that, through caravan history, is known as an icon of affordability and light weight, ticks those two boxes very firmly with the new model.

Layout overview

The Alpine 4 DB is a family caravan. What makes its layout so different from all other models is that it has a two-seater dining area in the rear nearside corner – and this makes into a single bed with a bunk above, to fold upwards from the wall. On the offside, there’s the shower and toilet compartment – and it’s every bit as large as one you’d expect to find across the rear of a caravan. There’s enough floor space around the good-sized washbasin and toilet, and a shower cubicle behind it. A cabinet under the washbasin and two shelves in a wall unit provide sufficient accommodation for washing paraphernalia.

Rear cabinet and dressing area

In between the dining area and the shower room is a large cabinet, complete with a mains socket and a mirror above – so it doubles as an all-purpose cabinet and a dressing table.

Overhead lockers

Three lockers are above the dining/bunk area.

Kitchen and appliances

Cooking kit is a three-burner hob and a combined oven/grill. The fridge is the Dometic 98-litre model. The sink is large and circular and comes complete with a washing-up bowl.

Lounge and sleeping conversion

The lounge has two parallel sofas, one longer than the other. Webbing-linked slats pull out from the central area to form the base of a double bed. Above the housing for the slats is a hinged coffee table that you can fold flat to the wall when you make up the double bed. The deep windowsill provides more space to put stuff and it’s where you find a mains socket plus a USB and a USB-C port.

Storage and finishes

Beside the door is a two-shelf cabinet that could be used to augment kitchen surface space. There’s also a cabinet between the fridge and the oven/grill, plus a large cabinet below the oven/grill.

Opposite the kitchen is a spacious wardrobe. The table is housed in here, and there is a shelf below the hanging space with a huge storage area below that.

The colour palette is simple, majoring on shades of fawn, flecked with dark grey, for the seating. Curtains are cream, with a ridged pattern in white; simple and just nice. Cabinetry is white, except in the kitchen, where the lower cabinets are wood effect. The storage areas beneath the seating are finished in dark brown, and they have front-opening lockers.
