Inside the Sprite Alpine 4 DB

Best Lightweight Caravan

It’s easy to quantify a tourer if you simply look at figures relating to size and weight, but our winner had to have special appeal as well as being light in weight and compact in size

Best Lightweight Caravan 2026

Sprite Alpine 4 DB

Always a super-important category, given the large number of buyers for whom weight is their first consideration, the new-for-2026 Sprite Alpine 4 DB passed that test in the judging process with flying colours.

And there’s more to like. A lot more.

This new family caravan has a layout never before seen. It has a dining area in the nearside rear corner.

This transforms into two bunks when you fold the top one down from the wall. It’s nicely secluded.

And it has a large cabinet alongside, complete with a mains socket and a mirror above – so it doubles as an all-purpose cabinet and a dressing table.

In the offside corner, the shower room is larger than you might expect given that this caravan is only 4.74m long and 2.23m wide.

Our judges quickly decided this new model’s £21,495 price was a major contributor to its award-winning status, because price, hand in hand with weight, is such a crucial factor for buyers.

So, a lightweight caravan with a practical family layout, a kitchen that ticks all the equipment boxes handsomely with its combined oven/grill and three-burner hob, and a lounge that’s plenty large enough for four to eat and watch television together.

Why did it edge ahead of its shortlist companion? Because it’s larger, and therefore has greater appeal – but it was nonetheless a very close call.

Xplore XC Lite 6

The runner-up diminutive Xplore XC Lite has an MTPLM of a mere 1,090kg. It’s very close to the Alpine 4 DB in terms of price. And it’s also a four-berth with a very clever layout.

That’s an offside rear dining area to convert to bunks, an L-shaped lounge and a combined shower toilet compartment in the nearside rear corner – in just 4.48m of body length.

The XC Lite also has an impressive package of standard equipment – including an Omnivent extractor fan, a microwave, WiFi, Al-Ko’s ATC stability system, and exterior mains socket, a barbecue point, an alarm system and tracker – and a bike rack.
