Kimberley Caravans, the major North East and Midlands caravan dealer, has won our Caravan Dealer of the Year Award – by gaining the largest number of public votes following our invitation to readers to vote for the best dealer. Caravanners from across the UK voted for their favourite caravan dealer; one who goes above and beyond to give top-quality service.
Kimberley Caravans, specialising in Coachman and Swift, has two sites, one close to Nottingham and the other close to Darlington. Both sites offer, as well as new ranges, a wide choice of used caravans.
Kimberley says, “Every used model on our forecourt is hand-picked, workshop-prepped, and backed with Kimberley's Low Prices Guarantee, giving you peace of mind as standard.” The enormous choice spans all price ranges, from nearly new models to caravans at less than £10,000 which Kimberley describes as “too good to trade”.
This energetic family-run company has its origins in the 1970s when a caravan salesperson called Michael Lowe rented a small plot of land from a car dealership in the village of Kimberley.
Michael set up Kimberley Caravans. And ran it solo, doing all tasks, from sales to even sometimes fitting towbars. In the following decade he moved the business to Mansfield – to a larger piece of land where 20 caravans could be displayed.
Shortly afterwards, the car dealership at Kimberley came up for sale and Michael bought it. In the 1990s, Michael’s son, Chris, joined the business. Expansion took place – and then, in 2012, Kimberley bought premises at Burtree, near Darlington.
A large outdoor display area, a vast indoor showroom and a brilliant location alongside the A1, this gigantic expansion for the company catapulted Kimberley into a new era.
A £1m investment included workshop expansion. Both Darlington and Nottingham branches offer a wide choice of awnings. Brands stocked include Dorema, Isabella, Camptech and Telta. Both branches have comprehensively stocked accessory stores.
Ranges include kitchen utensils, an extensive selection of tableware, plus air fryers, kettles and televisions. A wide choice of outdoor and awning furniture is on display, too, together with caravanning essentials including water containers and toilet chemicals, plus caravan covers.
In addition, both branches are now stockists of car rooftop TentBoxes. And the Darlington branch has a caravan storage facility.
