Caravan reveals the winner, plus the highly commended tourers, in the final section of our annual awards for Best Couples' Luxury Caravan - Twin Axle 2017

Best Luxury Caravan Winner

Lunar Alaria - £32,499

Lunar Alaria caravan

Three are three models in the Alaria range and this award goes to the whole range; three stunningly designed caravans with awesomely domestic-looking lounges of a unique layout and an array of coloured (yes, really!) lighting that creates true wow-factor.

The “luxury caravan” box gets a guaranteed great big tick, because the Alarias, made by Lunar, have the same high spec as the Lunar Deltas, complete with Alde heating. Alarias, though, take luxury to a new level, with a lounge that looks every inch like one designed for a little house or bijou apartment – plus an automatic levelling system.

The rich, gold decals set the scene of opulence. And the sumptuous sofas, upholstered in cool grey, the long roof light, the over-hob extractor fan and the large heated towel rail all add up to impressive luxury - and Alarias come complete with Avtex televisions.

They also have an array of selectable coloured lights above the lounge windows; you can choose your hue of illumination to define the mood of the moment – red, purple, green, blue, the whole spectrum is here at your fingertips. And also the automatic levelling system control is at your fingertips which removes a major chore from your touring tasks list!

Highly Commended Luxury Caravan

Coachman Laser 675 - £27,195

Coachman Laser 675

Long, luxurious and with the hot-property transverse island bed layout, this Highly Commended caravan, new for 2017, has lots of refinements including a shower control which allows you to select three different flow rates.

The whole caravan oozes style; there are tri-fold blinds in the bedroom and washroom, 18 bright LEDs outlining the bathroom mirror, and the settee backrests are slightly contoured, increasing comfort and adding style, too.

With Alde heating, a water tank, six power points, an offside services light and more, the 675 ticks all the high-spec boxes nicely. We love the storage capability of its kitchen. We love its bedroom ambience and the practicality of its big dressing table. We love the fabric combination, the bright little spotlights with night-time lights set into their bases, the white kitchen cabinets, the new slimline fridge. Oh, and the grey roof-rails that have distinguished Lasers for some years now. Altogether a brilliant newcomer

Highly Commended Luxury Caravan

Buccaneer Commodore - £31,699

Luxury at this level is becoming more numerous in the marketplace, but the Buccaneer is still a leader in many ways – it was the first range to have the automatic self-levelling system fitted, for example, and it has underfloor heating, an extension to the Alde system.

Everything about the transverse-bedroom Commodore is big. Buccaneers are 2.45m wide, which means more floor space; that's especially noticeable in the bedroom – and massive quantities of storage space. The kitchen is big, with plenty of surface and storage space. And the polished granite effect of the kitchen looks gorgeous. A truly fabulous caravan!

Highly Commended Luxury Caravan

Elddis Crusader Zephyr - £26,794

Crusader Zephyr

The Zephyr is a two-room caravan with a “Skyscape" roof light, Alde heating, an extractor fan, a water tank – all the gizmos and all the luxuries you'd want. Plus a device that switches off the heating automatically when you use a high-power-consumption device, to prevent you from tripping out the mains supply to your pitch.

The bed is a generous 1.9m long; there are seven mains sockets, and loads of kitchen storage space; lots of practicality, then. And lots of visual appeals, too. Crusaders have lovely pale woodwork and a beautiful fabric scheme featuring coppery orange in the cushions; the shade injects warmth to the overall look.

Highly Commended Luxury Caravan

Swift Elegance/ Sterling Continental 650 - £29,795

Sterling Continental 650 caravanThe 650 model, launched in both the Swift Elegance and Sterling Continental ranges, with the same spec, the same price and the same weight, is another beautiful caravan with a rear island bed and central, exceptionally spacious open-plan washroom. Big fridge-freezer, large lounge, Alde heating – these caravans have all the plus-points you'd expect at this price level.

The Swift Group has produced two caravans of the same spec with entirely different characters. Swift creates that character with the décor. The Continental's stark white and dark look is awesomely modern, almost Ikea-ish, with white woodwork, white and darkest brown seating and silver-white pattern on dark curtains.

Elegance styling is more muted, using fawns and tactile fabrics to create cosiness. Whichever style matches your taste; the 650 is a grand caravan.
