Caravanning is good for the soul and a weekend by the coast is even better. There’s something about breathing in the sea air and getting sand between your toes that just makes you feel so much better.

In the UK, no one lives more than 80 miles from the coast, so it’s not surprising that thousands of us head for the seaside every weekend.

Suffolk is full of old-world charm with small seaside towns awash with the pastel coloured hues of its quirky houses. Aldeburgh is the place for those who favour traditional English seafood – fishermen in huts along the seafront will happily tell you about their ‘catch of the day’. 

You can’t visit the town without stopping for a photo by the Scallop – a four-metre high steel sculpture designed by Maggi Hambling and featuring a quote from Aldeburgh’s famous composer, Benjamin Britten. It’s a striking sculpture at any time of the day, but particularly beautiful at sunset when it catches the light.

Take a stroll along the seafront with a bag of chips in hand and Aldeburgh Fish & Chips is the place to go. It’s been a feature of the town since 1967 and remains a favourite with locals and tourists, alike.

There are plenty of campsites within easy reach of town but, to experience more of the glorious Suffolk coast, choose a site that’s set away from the tourist hotspots and you’ll enjoy plenty of space with easy access to the best attractions in the area.

There’s an abundance of wildlife to see on site, including barn owls and deer. There’s a stream at the bottom of the site and you may see ducks, moorhens, egrets, and maybe even catch sight of the elusive kingfisher!
