Caravan accessories review: Isabella stackable pot and frying pan set
Of all the caravan accessories you need, you often overlook the pots and pans you use in the kitchen. You might use an old set of pots and pans from home. Or, you might buy a cheap set of pans from a caravan accessories dealer.
Buying cheap or using old pots and pans from home can mean you make cooking in your caravan difficult by design. Why?
Pots and pans from home work well there. But, in a caravan, they are often too big. They can be too big for the hob. It can be challenging to put them away in cupboards smaller than you have at home.
Cheap camping pots often have thinner bases than pots and pans you use at home. The light base means you can burn food quickly. The removable pan grips can be awkward for picking up pots from the hob or the oven.
Another problem in any kitchen, let alone in a caravan, is putting hot pans down on surfaces. At home, you put a trivet on the kitchen surface and place the hot pan on it. But, trivets take up space you usually don't have in a caravan when not using them.
What's the solution?
We tried out some caravan accessories made by Isabella designed specifically for caravanners, campers and motorhome owners.
Stackable pot and frying pan set
Price £69
Isabella's stackable pot and frying pan set are three saucepans and a frying pan, supplied with two locking panhandle grips.
The handles have a double action locking system, with a lever to loosen the grip and twin buttons on the sides of the handle to release. There is no risk of releasing the handle by mistake. The handle is well shaped and easy to grip. We love it!
You have to remove the handle, though, to use the pan lids, as the handle prevents the top from sitting firmly.
The pans have non-stick coating and bases that are designed to distribute the heat evenly.
In addition to the space-saving attribute, there are two more advantages of the removable handle system.
You can use the pans as serving dishes, on a table, and they can also be used in the oven, so that saves more space as you don't have to have a separate oven dish.
The saucepans are 16cm, 18cm and 20cm in diameter; the frying pan is 24cm. Weight: 3.4kg
Folding trivets
Price £18
Another new arrival in Isabella's kitchen equipment range is a set of two folding trivets.
They fold small enough you can store them in a cutlery drawer. The trivets are large enough for pans of any size. They're neat and smart– one dark grey, the other light grey – and a perfect accompaniment for Isabella's pan set; you can put the trivets on the table when you are using the pans as serving dishes.
The silicone trivets mean there is no risk of pans or dishes slipping.
