York Naburn Lock Caravan Park, North Yorkshire

An adults-only touring campsite located by the River Ouse in York, this five-star campsite features luxurious facilities, well-maintained pitches and great customer service.

York is an exhilarating city. Its year-round attractions and festivals can be enjoyed from New Year through to the Christmas markets.

York Naburn Lock Caravan Park is an adults-only campsite, a very short walk from the impressive Victorian locks and weir that give the park its name. In fact, the campsite’s tent field extends down to the riverbank where guests can enjoy fishing and riverside rambles.

Naburn Lock is easily found from York’s A64 ring road or the A19, just under a mile south of Naburn village. Arriving at the campsite gate, we were excited to see what was new since our last stay. Most noticeable is a striking new facilities building. ‘Luxury’ is a description sometimes overused, but here it is fully justified and recently backed by an AA five gold stars award. Every facility is provided, while accessibility has been carefully thought out.

Staff are very friendly and helpful at the combined reception and campsite shop, and there is a motorhome service point.

The campsite’s pitches are neatly landscaped into hedged paddocks. It is serenely peaceful even when all 118 pitches are occupied. Guests can choose from grass or hardstanding pitches. All are generously sized with full-service options available for each. Newly introduced ‘superior’ pitches are popular, these extra-large pitches have an additional paved area and picnic table.

Our plan was to walk into York along the 4.6-mile Ouse riverside path, returning on the Arriva 42 bus which stops at the site entrance. There is also the six-mile York Solar System cycle path (Sustrans Route 65). Best of all is York City Cruises Riverbus (dog-friendly) from Naburn Lock Wharf at weekends, April to September. Food is available nearby at the Blacksmiths Arms (15 minutes’ walk), Tea by the Lock (five minutes’ walk) and York Designer Outlet (ten minutes’ drive).

Based just four miles from York city centre and a few minutes' drive from a Park and Ride, York Naburn Lock Caravan Park is the perfect location for breaks to this historic city. Enjoy a well-managed and comfortable campsite with brilliant facilities!
