Westgate Carr Farm, North Yorkshire

Westgate Carr Farm is an adults-only motorhome, caravan and camping site, close to the lovely town of Pickering in beautiful North Yorkshire. It also boasts pleasant rural views and three holiday cottages, useful for non-touring family getaways.

While not obviously now a working farm, there are stables, and some gorgeous alpacas in a neighbouring field, around which the owners, Karen and Dave, motorhomers/caravanners themselves, have created a delightful circular path for nature lovers and dog walkers. One side follows a stream, the next can take you off to a woodland bird hide. 

They have invested their wealth of experience in creating just the right atmosphere at Westgate Carr Farm. This is a well-laid-out, dark skies site, offering big, level hardstanding pitches with plenty of space in between. Most are around a large circle of grass. 

Despite the relaxed atmosphere, the owners take a very modern approach, with a vehicle registration number operated barrier, and an efficient individual pitch electric usage system. During a mid-April stay, with the fridge connected and a bit of heat on in the evenings, we were charged just £5 over a three-night stay. The balance of our electrical deposit was refunded to our card within days.

A warm welcome is accompanied by a small dossier of paperwork, which includes a plan of the site, useful numbers, local attractions, a few dos and don’ts, and very detailed instructions on operating your electric usage at both ends of the stay. Free, strong WiFi is a bonus. 

Facilities are heated and clean. £1 gets you a hot seven-minute shower. As an eco-site, you are required to use formaldehyde-free toilet additive, which it sells at a competitive price. 

Pickering, a 30-minute walk away, is a large market town, full of inviting shops and great places to eat. From there, buses or the North Yorkshire Moors Railway will take you through the national park, all the way to Whitby!

Westgate Carr Farm is a peaceful, adults-only site combining rural charm with smart, modern management. Spacious pitches, dark skies and clean, heated facilities create a relaxing stay, while pay-as-you-use electric and secure entry add efficiency. Within walking distance of Pickering, it’s an ideal, well-run base for exploring North Yorkshire.
