Wecamp San Sebastián, Spain
Description
Perfect for visiting the tourist hotspot of San Sebastian, this Wecamp touring campsite has great pitches and good facilities. With its own bar and restaurant, you may be tempted to stay on the campsite on a warm, sunny day, but this corner of northern Spain has plenty worth exploring.
Full Review
We stayed at Wecamp San Sebastian for two nights in mid-May as our first stop after disembarking the ferry at Santander.
Make sure that you check the correct way to drive to the campsite and don’t do what we did if you don’t want a hair-raising drive over five miles on a narrow, mountainous road with hairpin bends!
If you arrive from the correct direction, you will see the sign that says to park in the car park on the other side of the road and then walk across to check in at reception.
We had booked this online before setting out – we saw that joining the Wecampers Club was free and gave us a 10% discount so this was a no-brainer. We checked in online and the registration process was easy. We were given the pitch number and shown its whereabouts on the map, as well as being shown the facilities and given information about the bus to the town centre.
The pitches were well laid out with hedges between them – we were lucky in that ours was relatively flat, although we did see that larger motorhomes than ours needed to use levelling blocks. There is free WiFi, which was good at the reception area and adequate on the pitch. The pool looked pleasant (although only open at high season) and there is a children’s playground.
The facilities are good – there were several toilet and shower blocks, which were clean and well equipped. There are plenty of sinks for washing up (with hot and cold water) and a laundry with washer and dryer.
The restaurant/bar is pleasant with seating inside and out, but closed on Wednesdays. The menu is fine, although limited if you have allergies or other dietary issues. There is a supermarket but we cannot comment on that as it was only open at weekends when we visited in May (we suspect that it is open for more hours in the high season).
The bus stop is just outside the entrance and is the end of the line for bus number 16. The service is about every 20 to 30 minutes and takes you to the old centre, which is lovely for a pleasant wander with beautiful architecture and churches.
This is a pleasant site and the bus service makes it an excellent base to explore San Sebastián – an interesting historical town with lovely beaches, too.

Our Verdict
This touring campsite is a great option for anyone visiting northern Spain, with high-quality pitches, its own restaurant and bar, and good facilities. The opportunity to visit San Sebastian is a real highlight, too, with buses leaving from directly outside the campsite entrance.
