Full Review

Peewit Caravan Park has been a family owned and operated campsite, open since 1965. Given that we live less than 55 minutes from the site, it was certainly time to try it out.

Access to the site is very easy from the A14 and although Felixstowe Docks, one of the largest container ports in Europe, is directly opposite, Peewit Caravan Park is delightfully tucked away down a pretty driveway.

There are 22 pitches, mostly on well cut, level grass and separate from the remainder of the park, which is dedicated to privately owned, static units. The park as a whole has a very friendly and cared for feel about it. The touring facilities have 10A electric hook-up and several water points. Of note, there is also a new service area with drive-over grey waste and chemical disposal.

The facilities block is also new and has three units each for males and females which contain a shower, toilet and sink. My only criticism of this set-up is that use of the showers takes the toilets out of use, and the showers are the set temperature push-button variety. But you do get music in these units and they are in perfect condition. There is a pot wash area in the block and, opposite reception, a well-equipped laundry.

A gate from the campsite leads to a footpath, which can be followed to the seafront in around 15 minutes. There is a lovely promenade to walk along and the main town is located above this. The longer walk to Felixstowe Ferry is definitely worthwhile, and in the other direction, the viewing point at the historic Landguard Fort is a popular place to watch the huge container ships docking. There is a timetable of arrivals and other useful information at the Peewit reception.
