Full Review
This relatively new campsite (2026 is the fourth season) is set in the peaceful Cheshire countryside close to the towns of Crewe and Nantwich.
There are 32 pitches (13 hardstanding and 19 grass), all of which have a 16A electric hook-up. Non-electric camping pitches are also available.
Access to the Oakwood campsite is barrier controlled and the facilities comprise a modern toilet and shower block, including an accessible wet room, and an outdoor pot wash. The only negative of our reviewer's stay was that when they visited on a chilly weekend, the toilet and shower block was unheated; although thankfully, the water was piping hot!
The pitches are level, extremely generous in both size and spacing, and with saplings planted to separate each one. The site is set well back from the road with rural views in every direction and we were treated to a beautiful sunset during our stay.
A network of public footpaths can be accessed directly from the site. We spent a pleasant morning walking with our dogs across the fields, then along the Middlewich branch of the Shropshire Union Canal, before stopping for coffee and cake at a marina café.
The local area is home to a wealth of diverse attractions. Nantwich, a pretty town known for its timber-framed buildings and independent shops, is around five miles away. Further afield, the motor racing circuit at Oulton Park is 10 miles away and it’s 23 miles to the city of Chester with its distinctive architecture, walls and zoo.
We also visited Beeston Castle (under the care of English Heritage), which is a 30-minute drive from Oakwood. The 360-degree views from the castle were spectacular, encompassing the Manchester skyline, Welsh hills and the Pennine uplands. The panorama made the climb worthwhile!
