Description

Kielder Waterside Caravan Park sits along the edge of Kielder Water, with an on-site bar and restaurant.

Full Review

Kielder Waterside Caravan Park is located within what is predominately a holiday lodge resort. As the name suggests, the campsite sits along the edge of Kielder Water and is well located to allow easy access to all the area has to offer.

The 60 pitches are all hardstanding with electric hook-up and there’s a choice of woodland or partial lake-view pitches. We needed levelling ramps and I noticed that other motorhomes on site did, too. You’ll find a facilities block that comprises toilets, showers and an indoor pot wash. There’s a well-stocked shop and reception which are open 24/7, as well as a children’s play area and a games room.

The overall site is large and rather hilly. It was around 250 metres from our pitch to the facilities block and around 500 metres to the reception area, so it may not suit those with mobility issues.

A wide range of chargeable activities are available, including archery, canoeing, bike hire, mini-golf, and falconry at the on-site bird of prey centre, as well as spa treatments. There’s direct access onto the Lakeside Way multi-user trail which encircles Kielder Water.

We enjoyed using the swimming pool, sauna and steam room. The facility had a luxury feel, although we did feel that £7 for a 45-minute session was somewhat expensive, considering the high pitch price.

There is an on-site bar/restaurant which incorporates both a dog friendly and a soft play zone, as well as a more formal dining area.

If you do venture off site, then there are two visitor centres within six miles. Kielder Forest also offers mountain bike trails to follow.

One of our highlights was a trip along the Kielder Forest Drive. This toll road, one of England’s highest drives, boasts breathtaking scenery and a wilderness feel.

Kielder Observatory is only 15 minutes away. An array of events are hosted here, bookable via the website.

Our Verdict

While located within a holiday lodge resort, this campsite's location, alongside Kielder Water, is a great option for people looking to explore the reservoir and its many water-based activities. The campsite is also well located to access Kielder Forest and several mountain bike trails.
