Description

A countryside escape, within easy reach of the dramatic beauty of Dartmoor National Park, Harford Bridge is beautifully located alongside the River Tavy.

Full Review

Harford Bridge is beautifully located alongside the River Tavy, only a few steps from the large granite bridge from which the site takes its name. In fact, some of the site’s electric grass pitches are located by the riverside, so if you’re lucky and book early, you could snap up one of those.

Across the whole site there are a variety of pitches, including hardstanding with electric, and fully serviced pitches. Some pitches also have a picnic table. The facilities are well-kept and include toilets, showers, wet rooms, washing up, a shop and a laundry room. There is a motorhome service point, and for dog owners there is a handy dog shower and an exercise field. Not just for dog walking, the exercise field is part of a four-acre tree and wildflower meadow, so somewhere for humans to stretch their legs, too!

For anyone with children in tow there is a games room, a play area and a tennis court. From the riverside touring area you can also access the pebbly shore of the river where it passes under the bridge – ideal for a paddle on summer days.

For exploring off site you are spoilt for choice. I enjoy walking and there were plenty of routes to choose from and Harford Bridge is also adjacent to a National Cycle Route. Within a few miles are several tors to explore, with a particular favourite being Brent Tor which has St Michael’s Church at its summit. There is a car park (PL19 0NP) just across the road from the access track to the top of the tor.

Tavistock, a market town and part of UNESCO’s Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape World Heritage Site, is a lovey place to visit. It is only two miles away with a museum, Guildhall Heritage Centre, abbey ruins and an indoor Pannier Market. Open Tuesday to Saturday, an eclectic range of food, gifts, crafts, antiques and collectables are available, with the market having been running for over 900 years.

After my visit I can say that this is a truly beautiful campsite in a rural area. It's also a member of the Premier Parks group of campsites, so you know that it's going to be high quality!
