Full Review
We had a very interesting journey to our two-night stay at Camping Mittagsspitze in October. We were driving down a tricky road in Italy when our phones shrieked at us – an emergency alert test which, needless to say, we didn’t immediately identify as being a test! This was followed by finding out that the Arlberg tunnel was closed (all summer!) so we had to go over the pass – a scenic, if scary drive.
We then succeeded in entering Liechtenstein, only to find road closures in the capital city of Vaduz. Instead of using common sense, we followed the sat-nav – yet another challenging drive involving one-way systems on single-track mountain roads (but, on the plus side, we did get to see the castle en route).
We were just in time to check into the site (booked ahead of time) and had a spacious, level pitch with electricity; we had to borrow a Swiss electricity converter – a CHF 10 (£10.07) refundable deposit.
There are water and waste facilities and two shower blocks. WiFi was excellent by the reception and OK on our pitch. This is a family-run campsite and the staff in reception were friendly and helpful.
The mountain views from this site are beautiful – it was rainy when we were there, but that just made it very atmospheric. We were there out of season and therefore many facilities weren’t open but as we were here to see Vaduz and the area, this wasn’t important to us. During the summer there is a bread delivery in the small shop, a pool, TV room and so on, and this would be an idyllic place to stay (but it was pretty good as an autumn stopover as well).
There is a restaurant on the campsite, closed on a Monday and Tuesday. It gets very good reviews, but looks to be very expensive.
It’s about a 10-minute walk to the bus stop and you can catch a bus into the capital city of Vaduz and other parts of the tiny principality. We saw a sign for the Fairtiq app on which you can buy bus tickets (for here and other countries including Germany) – it’s an easy app to use and we found that, in Liechtenstein at least, it caps the fare for a day at the cheapest day rate which was very reasonable. Vaduz has interesting architecture and museums. It is a pleasant place to spend a day.

Our Verdict
Something a bit different! Enjoy dramatic mountain views and, in the summer at least, plenty of facilities to make your stay more comfortable, as well as a daily bread delivery to the campsite shop.
