Applewood Countryside Park, Norfolk
Description
A countryside campsite set adjacent to a zoo and within easy travelling distance of Norwich, too.
Full Review
One of the big draws of this site for me was the proximity to Banham Zoo, literally right next door, and the campsite offers discounted entry tickets which is an added bonus.
Applewood Countryside Park is set in 13 acres of parkland, 20 miles southwest of Norwich. It is surrounded by mature trees and the pitches are split into small groups by hedging.
There is a central facilities block, roughly an equal distance from all the pitches, and amenities include large showers rooms, with temperature-controlled showers, hooks for clothes and there’s underfloor heating. There is also a laundry room, washing-up area and free WiFi.
Pitches are a choice of grass or hardstanding, with or without electric. There are also extra-large options and designated accessible pitches. Dogs are welcome on site at no extra charge. If travelling with family/friends of the non-motorhoming variety, there are standard glamping pods, ‘posh’ pods with a double or twin bed, and shepherd’s cabins with their own en suite facilities.
Anyone travelling with children will appreciate the play trail, and covered games den with table tennis and giant chessboard, for the little ones to let off steam. There is of course Banham Zoo, too, but with over 2,000 animals from around the world, keeper talks, and a range of events throughout the year, this is one attraction for all ages!
Just 20 yards away from the campsite is The Appleyard, a small courtyard of shops, including a licensed convenience store, a butchers, fish and chip shop, and a pub, The Barrel.
For other things to do, Snetterton motor racing circuit is only 15 minutes away, so perfect for petrolheads with supercar race events taking place there, plus the opportunity to book driving experiences.
Further afield is the city of Norwich, ideal for a day out, with the four park and ride car parks having no height barriers, so motorhomes can park there while using the service. You could also spend at day at the coast, at either Lowestoft or Southwold. They are quite far, just over an hour’s drive away, but I love the seaside so any excuse and I’ll go there while on holiday.
