Details

Leading away from the camping area is a campsite walk. It is a pleasant meadow-like setting where walkers and pet owners are free to walk. Along this walk you will come across the duckpond, peacock house and chicken enclosure. In the adjacent fields, you may see goats, pigs and Shetland Ponies. The walk then loops around the lake. It is free to use to campsite residents and many species of fish are present including roach, rudd and carp.

Westham is the nearest village where you will find local shops catering for daily essentials and other amenities including a post office and newsagent. A public telephone box is located within a few hundred yards of the site. A fish restaurant in the village can provide you with an eat in or takeaway service if you don't feel like cooking after a long day on the beach or out and about. You will find several pubs within walking distance for a quiet evening drink.

Fairfields Farm is well served by public transport with Pevensey and Westham Railway Station 500 metres from the site, offering direct rail links to Eastbourne, Hastings, Brighton and London. Interestingly the local church, St Mary's, is the first the Norman's built and is worth a little look around.

The campsite is only four miles from the centre of Eastbourne, a popular seaside town. With its many attractions, you can always be assured of something to keep you entertained. Easily reached by road, rail or bus, you can be in the centre of town in minutes.

Pevensey Bay is about a mile away and is a small seaside village. Located right on the coast you will find shops, banks, restaurants and pubs.

There are lots of other local attractions including beaches, which are mostly pebble, and the nearest is about a mile away. Crumbles Marina and Shopping Complex and the Sovereign Harbour is where you will find all the large retail outlets as well as a six screen multiplex cinema. The Sovereign Harbour is a recent development offering sheltered water berthing for yachts and other vessels. Everything you would expect from a modern marina can be found here.

The Sovereign Centre houses a leisure pool offering both a conventional swimming pool and a modern leisure pool, slides and wave machines.

For a little history, within a stone's throw of the site, you will find historic Pevensey Castle, best known as the place where William the Conqueror landed in 1066. The Romans built a fortress here around AD 280. Its three and a half metre thick walls protected the coast for two hundred years. A ten-minute drive will take you to Herstmonceux Castle, once the home of the Royal Greenwich Observatory, now an international study centre.

If you prefer a spot of shopping then in addition to the Crumbles Shopping Complex, Eastbourne boasts extensive shopping facilities at the recently improved centre - The Beacon. It houses all the big name shops within an indoor facility with adjacent parking.
