Developed alongside a farm, Shepherds Views campsite is a Lake District campsite in a peaceful part of Cumbria far from the hustle and bustle of urban life. The Cumbrian hills and valleys of Wasdale frame the backdrop and there are rural views of fields in all directions.
The campsite itself offers hardstanding pitches for motorhomes and caravans that are set on gravel and have 16 amp electric hook-ups, as well as fresh and waste water connections. There's also a separate tent field set on grass that offers 10 amp electric hook-ups.
All pitches are easy to access and set amid neatly trimmed grass (something of a passion for the owner - we got lots of grass cutting tips!) and a cream-painted building with a slate roof houses the reception area and the unisex toilet and shower block.
If you're expecting basic farm facilities, think again, as inside this wood-beamed building you'll discover pale green panelling with privacy cubicles, massive modern showers with spacious changing areas and a coin-operated hairdryer. There's also a large wetroom for disabled visitors.
Outside the shower block is a Belfast sink for washing, with aditional covered area providing an additional three stainless sinks with draining boards.
The lower tent area also offers barbecue points, to keep all-in-one barbecues off the grass, and is set next to an additonal field that has been set aside for dog exercising at one end and ball games for kids at the other end.
The campsite also offers a camping pod that's available to hire and three self-catering cottages, that were only built in 2009. These are modern and luxurious, with one even having its own hot tub for up to eight people.
The campsite also offers cycle hire (offering mountain bikes for both sexes, kids bikes, tag-along bikes and even ones with toddler seats) to allow you to explore the surrounding area without having to drive anywhere. Hadrian's Cycleway runs right past the site, and runs from Ravenglass all the way to South Shields. So if you're feeling like a challenge...
Less challenging is a pedal to Seascale, which is the nearest town and is just over a mile away from the campsite (it'll take a few minutes by bike). As well as a bus stop and railway station, you'll also find a small selection of pubs and grocery stores, a golf course, a seafront play area and, best of all, a large beach. To mark the millennium a wooden jetty was also built here and it's a pleasant sleepy town with a population of just 2,000.
Shepherds Views is all about escaping busy life and unwinding amidst great walking and biking country in a quiet and scenic part of the world. A short stroll from the campsite takes you up to Halsenna Moor where you'll find a variety of wildlife including deer, foxes and even red squirrels. There are various designated walks around this area of conservation.
