The level campsite, on a privately-owned beach, is well signed off the road with good access. It is protected by high cliffs with wonderful views of the rolling countryside behind, and nestles on the edge of the fine golden sand. Some pitches are just a few feet from the beach.
It has been recommended by the Marine Conservation Society, and has its own slipway and launching service, making it ideal for sailing, waterskiing and other water sports - so bring your own boat (jet skis not allowed!). There is expert tuition on hand for all these sports, with equipment hire if you want to try your hand at one of these new pastimes, plus snorkel safaris to explore the many rocky areas around this beautiful bay.
There is plenty to do in all weathers with two heated indoor swimming pools. If you want to explore the area on the many dedicated tracks then cycles can be hired from Pentewan Valley Cycle Hire, giving you the opportunity to ride through some of the most scenic countryside in Britain.
The Mevagissey Ferry takes you across to Fowey, on the voyage where there is a good chance of seeing dolphins, seals and maybe basking sharks. Here you can wander the crooked alleys of the old town, visit the aquarium and museum or go deep sea fishing with one of the many little boats plying for hire in the old port. If you catch some mackerel then what better than grilling them for supper on your BBQ (wrap them in foil with some garlic butter and a slice of lemon – mmm!).
The Porthpean 18-hole golf course has outward holes in a pleasant parkland setting, while the return course commands spectacular views over St Austell Bay. When you have finished your game relax back at Pentewan in the Seahorse for a drink and light snack, or meal. The Eden Project, Lost Gardens of Heligan, and Lanhydrock House are all just a short drive away.
