Details

This campsite is situated on a working farm in the heart of Exmoor, so the closer one gets to the campsite the more minor the roads become - as a consequence it is unsuitable for caravans.

It definitely qualifies as rural and being so secluded is really quiet and peaceful. The campsite is located in the river valley beside the River Exe; a magnificent setting. However, levelling blocks are necessary as it is a slightly sloping site and with no hardstanding available the weather and weight of the vehicle become important factors.

Although there is no provision for electric hook-ups there are two toilet blocks, washing-up facilities, a laundry room, a well-stocked shop, and a comprehensive information centre, all converted from farm buildings.

Substantial areas are set aside to sustain wildlife and in close proximity are fields used for farming; some of which contain livestock. Both dogs and horses are very welcome. Kennels are available if required and although there is not a designated dog exercise area there is plenty of choice for well-behaved dogs.

A nearby field and stables is set aside for visiting horses. This is a popular option for riders making use of it to ride out over the moors. This all serves to create a feeling of “au naturel” which is rather refreshing.

There are four local walks waymarked, instructions for which can be obtained from the shop. They are each of about two hours duration and provide the opportunity to glimpse a wide variety of wildlife and if the weather is clear, some stunning scenery.

This park is not the most technologically developed as many. However, it offers a far greater range of rural activities in the commiserate surroundings. Its secluded position guarantees peace and tranquillity.
