Ranch Caravan Parks Ltd purchased Fernwood during the 1960s when it was 66 acres of beautiful woodland and open countryside. It has been sympathetically developed to retain the beauty of its natural surroundings, and is greatly enhanced by the man-made lake, which offers enjoyable fishing for all ages. The 40 acres of woodland are ideal for visitors with dogs or just a leisurely stroll. The informal layout of the holiday homes, combined with the retention of mature trees, shrubs, hedges, and woodland, as well as continued planting, all help to integrate the park into its natural surroundings.
