introduction

Whitefield Forest Touring Park

Set close to the sandy beaches of Ryde and Sandown, with a bus stop just 100m from the entrance, this campsite is set in the ancient woodland of Whitefield Forest and has pitches for motorhomes, caravans and tents. There are many trails to explore directly from the site, which has been sympathetically developed in conjunction with the Forestry Commission. Wildlife is encouraged and red squirrels are a common sight. Facilities include a smart modern toilet block with wheelchair-accessible facilities and baby-changing, and an outdoor play area. The area is great for walking and cycling.

Details

If you're looking for a campsite where you can feel tucked away from the world in a woodland retreat, then this is the site for you. Whitefield Forest Touring Park has been sympathetically built into the forest, with the owners and Forestry Commission working together to minimise its impact, and this cooperation shows. The natural beauty of the forest has been maintained and the resident wildlife is a welcome addition. You will most likely spot one of the island's most famous inhabitants here - the red squirrel.

Even though the site has a rural feel to it, all the attractions of the Isle of Wight are easily accessible. The touring park is located between the beaches of Ryde and Sandown, and the bus stop just outside the entrance means you can leave your vehicle behind. There are many public footpaths and bridleways in the area, so walkers and cyclists will be spoilt for choice to explore.

The pitches are a mixture of all-weather hardstandings and grass, all on terraces with electric hook-up, and from 2014 some are fully serviced. They are level and backed by trees, giving shelter and adding to the woodland feel.

The amenities block is a modern and well-presented building. It nestles in the woodland without intruding upon it and has everything you'd expect from a high-quality site – heating, privacy cubicles, showers, family washrooms, baby changing and wheelchair-friendly facilities. The washing up areas are located around the amenities block and the laundry room is located here too.

Reception houses a small shop selling the essentials along with a few treats like ice cream for those warm summer days. There are also books here which can be borrowed and swapped during your stay. Just outside reception is the motorhome service point and waste recycling area.
