The stretch of beach between Lulworth Cove and the dramatic sea arch and sands at Durdle Door in Dorset impress all who come here. This stretch of cliff-lined coast must rank as some of the most stunning in the whole country and walkers can tire themselves out to their hearts' content walking up and down along the steep chalk cliffs. For family parties, the beaches are magnificent, and, very popular with swimmers, parents and children alike will find this area wonderful with plenty to do and see.
The dramatically sited Durdle Door Holiday Park can be found on the Lulworth Castle Estate not far from the ever popular Lulworth Cove. The site is located on a cliff top under the slopes of Hambury Tout and Newlands Warren and the main carpark for Durdle Door Beach is next to the site. This parking area is nearly always busy but the campsite itself is a haven of peace and there is direct access from the camping and caravanning fields to the coast paths that take you either along the cliffs or down to the beach far below. Kids will adore this campsite but make sure you keep an eye on them near those cliffs. Durdle Door is the ideal tonic for jaded nerves after a long winter and is always popular, so book in advance. It is a big site with a lot of static vans and bags of facilities including the Man O War bar/restaurant which can also provide takeaway food, a well stocked Spar shop and two children’s play areas,
Apart from the main part of the site with its decent road system and static vans, there are three areas for camping and touring visitors. The dramatic ‘Sea View’ area is for touring campervans and caravans of less than 5.5m in length and overlooks the sea and is very open and has electric hook-ups. For caravans, motorhomes and campers longer than 5.5m the ‘Abbeyfield’ area offers hardstanding pitches, edged with grass and hedges. There is an electric hook up point and water on each pitch. Some pitches also offer a grey waste point. For tents the Rookery offers a non-allocated pitch camping area amongst trees for small tents up to 18 m (there are no hook-ups in this area).
There is a washing up area equipped with fridge freezer, washing machine and microwave which can be used by the camping and touring guests. The toilet facilities are clean and tidy and offer free showers with family shower rooms. There are also baby changing areas and disabled facilities.
The site is controlled by barriers and no rowdy behaviour is tolerated, making it particularly appealing to family groups and those who enjoy a calm and peaceful site. All in all, this is a great place to come and stay at any time of the season.
