Quex Caravan Park, Kent campsite review
I was travelling down to Kent for an open day at the Wildlife Heritage Foundation and wanted to make a short break of it. Because I’m a big fan of the coast I decided to carry on the extra 50-minute drive east from the Foundation and pitch up at Quex Caravan Park.
This Premier Park is only two miles from the sandy beaches of Minnis Bay and Margate, set in a partly wooded area, with a shop and small café on site along with the usual toilet, shower and laundry facilities. The campsite is open from mid-February to mid-December, depending on the weather, and the area near reception is full of floral colour in season. I enjoyed a cuppa and a snack on the café’s terrace, making the most of the sunshine.
The touring area is separate from the holiday home section and offers mainly grassed pitches with electric hook-ups but some hardstandings are available. There’s a large open area for children to play and WiFi is offered across the site.
The village of Birchington is within walking distance and the nearest attraction is Quex House Museum and Gardens that adjoins the site. However, I spent my time enjoying the seaside at Margate and getting culture at the Turner Contemporary gallery that’s located there.
As I said at the start, though, my main reason for being here was the open day at the Wildlife Heritage Foundation. This is a big cat sanctuary with cheetahs, leopards, jaguars, lions and the stunningly beautiful white tigers. There are plenty of opportunities to take amazing photos, especially if you have a camera with a good zoom function. You can also book onto a group photography day, or even a one-on-one session where you get to enter the enclosures with some of the smaller cats – an opportunity not to be missed!
