I love spending time outdoors, especially in the Peak District and Lake District, which are easily two of my favourite places to spend my free time. Whether it is a long walk, a weekend camping trip, or simply spending the day somewhere with limited facilities, there is one thing you can almost always count on: at some point, you will need to go.

And when you have to go, you have to go.

For women, using nature’s bathroom is not always the easiest or cleanest experience. It can be awkward, a bit messy and if you do not have any toilet roll with you, usually ends with the dreaded drip-dry. It is one of those things that is rarely spoken about properly, despite being something so many women deal with when spending time outside.

That is where Wild Wipe comes in. The idea is very simple: after going for a wild wee, you use the device to wipe yourself dry, then pop the case back on and carry on with your day.

It is very lightweight, easy to hold and small enough to keep in a pocket or bag without really noticing it is there. It also comes in three fun colours – forest green, sunset orange and ice blue, which is the one I used. It is a small detail, but it does make the product feel a little less clinical and more like a proper piece of outdoor kit.

On my first use, I cannot lie, it did feel very strange. I had never used anything remotely like this before, so there is a moment where you have to get used to the idea of it.

However, once I had used it, I could completely understand why someone had created it. It was less messy than using nothing at all, and it made the whole situation feel a little more practical.

The case is an important part of the product. Once you have used Wild Wipe, you simply put the case back on and that is that until you are able to wash it properly with warm water and soap.

For outdoor trips where you are already thinking about what to pack in and pack out, it feels like a sensible alternative to carrying damp toilet paper around with you. Of course, washing it afterwards is not exactly the nicest job in the world, but it is a small trade-off for feeling cleaner and more comfortable when you are outdoors.

It is also worth mentioning that this is not a product trying to be glamorous, and that is probably why it works. It solves a very real, very common issue in a straightforward way.

It may take a few uses to feel completely natural, but for women who spend a lot of time outdoors, it is the kind of small item that could make a noticeable difference.

Overall, Wild Wipe is a great product, and I am glad someone has finally tried to tackle the issue of women needing to go to the toilet outside. It is lightweight, simple to use and genuinely useful for hiking, camping, festivals or any trip where proper facilities are limited.

That being said, there are a couple of things to keep in mind. You do need to be careful when using it to make sure you have good aim and do not accidentally get wee anywhere else. You also need to make sure the case is firmly back on afterwards, because the last thing you want is any leftover moisture escaping into your back pocket or wherever you are carrying it.

However, if you are a woman who enjoys the outdoors and wants to avoid drip-drying, Wild Wipe is definitely worth considering. It is not the most glamorous piece of kit you will ever buy, but it might be one of the most practical.
