Description

This double airbed from Coleman self-inflates in just a few minutes using the pump sack, which also forms the bed’s carry bag. It inflates to a depth of 12cm and is more than big enough for two people, providing a warm, comfortable bed for family camping adventures.

Full Review

While there’s many different types of campsites and tents, campers can broadly be split into two camps: those who want ultralight, space-saving kit and those who just want to be comfortable, space and weight be damned.

I’ve historically placed myself in the ultralight camp but having a toddler has necessitated dipping a toe into the cosy, cushioned waters of family camping, often referred to as car camping. And you know what? It’s pretty damn comfortable.

At the top of our list when picking out kit for a family camping adventure was a decent airbed. Our 18-month-old daughter usually ends up in our bed overnight, so we needed something that was reliable and firm enough to accommodate two and a half people, helping us all get a good night’s sleep.

Enter the Coleman Supercomfort Self-Inflating Sleeping Mat. This large double airbed (200cm by 128cm by 12cm) easily fits two people and can accommodate another, much smaller occupant with ease. As the name suggests, the Supercomfort self-inflates, removing the need for a pump or any accessories. If left to its own devices, the mat will inflate in about 10 minutes after you activate the valve, but you can always speed up the process with the carry bag, which doubles as a pump sack.

Once inflated, you’ve got a brilliantly comfy surface that will remain inflated for the duration of your trip – it might sound obvious, but I’ve used enough airbeds that have deflated overnight, so one that is more reliable is worth its weight in gold.

The 12cm depth may also sound minimal but it’s actually providing a high level of thermal resistance, so the Supercomfort can be used throughout the year.

One trade-off you make with self-inflating airbeds is that they never pack down very small, no matter how much time you spend trying to remove air, and this version from Coleman is no different. You can wrestle it into a moderate size and cinch the rolled-up version using the straps provided, but it’s still going to take up a pretty sizeable portion of your car’s boot.
