Drawn to the outdoors from an early age, Henry is made to meander through the British countryside, where slow walks, open landscapes and fresh air feel most at home.

Description

The Ridge-Seeker Waterproof Jacket is designed not only to brave the elements, but to move comfortably through them. Its 3L Gore-Tex construction acts as a protective yet breathable barrier, shielding you from the storm while allowing heat and moisture to escape. That sense of protection carries through the finer details, too. Velcro-adjustable cuffs help seal in warmth, while cordlock adjustment points at the hem and within the hood let you hold onto heat when it matters.

Full Review

One thing to note about me is a distinct disregard for checking the weather app. If I have a hankering to head out, that’s it, I’m gone. As you can imagine this has proven a mistake on many occasions, whether it’s a sudden downpour or random gale force winds just sort of kicking off around my person, my desire to traipse out into nature can be very poorly planned. This coat mediates any poor planning in an instant.

Intended for trekking, hillwalking, scrambling (I also would add jogging to this list, it was perfectly good on my long run), and I can see why. The first thing that struck me was the amount of storage; the pockets are extremely large. I could fit my standard paperback book with ease, but even more impressive is how the pockets feel locked in place; when I was jogging, I typically despise the shifting keys and phones. I had no such problem with both the internal and external pockets.

The next thing that struck me as I rifled through an overgrown footpath, was the durability and quality of the coat. With brambles and thorn bushes rife, I was concerned that my adventurous choice of path would be the coat's downfall, but it and I came out completely unscathed and unmarked. Though I am yet to scramble up any sharp limestone mountainsides.

Despite the lightweight nature of the coat, it was extremely effective with temperature control. The beauty of layering is often lost on windbreakers in my experience as it can just be very difficult to strike a balance between waterproof and sweltering. But the with the various vents, it was extremely easy to stay the exact temperature that I wanted to. Though a small criticism, I found the underarm ones difficult to reach, but that could just be a poor range of motion from me.

Another note, it is very waterproof, admittedly you would hope so at this price, but it is very, very waterproof. This extends to all the pockets, the joints (an area of particular concern for me with other coats) and of course the torso, all absolutely spotless.

Our Verdict

This a fantastic coat. The core elements, for example the weather resistance, are top tier. Even when I was jogging in a wide-open field in the midst of heavy rain and blustering winds, I felt protected. Outside of that the huge amounts of storage and nice structure of the coat mean you have ample storage if you want to forgo a bag. If you are looking for a top-quality coat at the upper end of the market this could be it.
