North Wales

Famous for Mount Snowdon, Snowdonia National Park is a haven for  campers and outdoor enthusiasts. Snowdonia boasts 200 miles of glorious coastline where you’ll find secluded bays, sheltered harbours and vast open beaches. Barmouth is a popular coastal resort in southern Snowdonia, with big beaches, a picturesque harbour and splendid views.

A highlight of North Wales is the extraordinary Italianate village of Portmeirion, designed by architect Sir Clough Williams-Ellis in the 1920s. The many castles of North Wales provide a glimpse into the area’s history and the island of Anglesey is a haven for wildlife.

Mid-Wales

Sandwiched between the delights of the north and the south, mid-Wales has plenty to offer in its own right.

Welshpool is a market town just three miles from the English border and is home to Powis Castle and Garden. Builth Wells makes a fine base for walking and cycling and Devil’s Bridge is a small village famous for its waterfall and three stacked bridges.

Attractions include Glansevern Hall Gardens, on the banks of the River Severn, the Red Kite Feeding Centre and Clywedog Lake – a reservoir with trails, viewing points and a host of wildlife.

West Wales

The west coast boasts some stunning scenery, with golden beaches, towering cliffs and hidden coves, as well as countless picturesque fishing villages, pretty harbour towns and traditional seaside resorts.

St Davids is famous for being the smallest city in Britain, with a population of just 1600. The city status comes from its magnificent cathedral. At Abereiddy Beach you’ll find the Blue Lagoon, a former slate quarry that was abandoned and flooded in 1910, and is now a watersports mecca.

The ancient town of Cardigan sits on the estuary of the River Teifi at the base of Cardigan Bay and also worth your time is idyllic Mwnt Beach.

South Wales

Out of peak times you’ll often have the south Wales beaches to yourself to enjoy the surging waves and unbeatable beauty.

Possibly the most famous landscape in south Wales, the Brecon Beacons National Park is the great outdoors at its finest.

The walled town of Pembroke has many ancient Norman buildings and the harbour town of Tenby has three beaches, a museum and art gallery, boats trips and many places to eat.

Exploring the Wales Coastal Way

The 180-mile Coastal Way follows the coastline of Wales around Cardigan Bay, between St Davids in the south to Aberdaron in the north. As you drive along, with glistening blue seas on one side and towering mountains on the other, it’s easy to understand why Wales is considered one of the most beautiful countries in the world.

Camping Inspiration: Pembrokeshire

Pembrokeshire in the south-west of Wales is home to the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park and a superb location to find stunning (and often hidden), award-winning beaches. The better known towns and villages include Pembroke, Milford Haven, Fishguard, Tenby, and Newport while, in the north-west you’ll find St Davids, with a superb cathedral that makes it well worth visiting.

Camping Inspiration: Anglesey and the north Wales coast

Anglesey, off the northwest coast of Wales within sight of the awesome summits of the Snowdonia National Park, is a popular destination for family camping trips. It’s an absolute charm – winding back lanes combined with modern fast roads, hidden coves and sandy bays and great coastal hiking combined with a bit of easy hill walking.
