A campfire is many people’s idea of a camping essential

Here are some great sites where you can enjoy sitting round an open fire.

Set on Exmoor in the heart of the Doone Valley, Cloud Farm Camping not only allows campfires but they sell something rather special called Mystical Fire. This magical powder, when thrown into the fire, turns the flames into brilliant colours of red, green, blue and violet and each sachet lasts up to 40 minutes – now that’s a campfire to remember! The campsite which is located on the Somerset and Devon border has riverside pitches with numerous footpaths either in the valley or up on the high moor. There’s also an on-site shop and a tearoom which is open all day serving breakfasts, lunches and hot meals, with a walled riverside garden area for enjoying the sun. Cloud Farm is the perfect base for families and walkers. Local towns like Porlock and Lynton and Lynmouth are close to visit. There’s superb scenery, unspoilt coastlines and undiscovered beaches to explore.

A family campsite on a working farm, with views over the Vale of Aylesbury and Ivinghoe Beacon. Barbecues and small open fires are allowed on site as long as they are raised off the ground, or fire pits are available to hire. ‘Pick Your Own’ fruit and veg from June each year. Site is close to the Grand Union Canal and Whipsnade Safari Park.
