Full Review

Pilote says it has reinvented its panel van range for 2026 with comfort, innovation and streamlined design as the watchwords. One model that has received particular attention is the V630J, the single bed layout in Fiat’s longest (6.36m) Ducato.

Like the whole Vega range, the V630J receives redesigned seating, designed to offer enhanced support with automotive-style materials in grey fabric or a mix of fabric and faux leather in either grey or black. Isofix becomes standard.

Overhead lockers now include soft backlighting and a continuous run of LEDs, while a full-height walk-through into the cab is now also part of the standard spec. Diesel heating means that gas is now only used for cooking, so the gas locker is reduced to cater for one small cylinder and, further increasing off-grid potential, the new Lithium Pack option adds a 210Ah battery and twin solar panels.

An external shower (located in the garage) is another addition to the spec, while an insulated waste water tank makes the camper even more suitable for all-season touring.

Popular layout, great storage

Of course, the Vega V630J adopts one of the most popular layouts amongst continental campervans, so it’s not short of competitors, but with a redesigned bedroom with premium bedding and reconfigured storage, Pilote could be onto a winner. Let’s look at that storage first.

When you open the rear doors you’ll be impressed by the space on offer, which stretches across the full width of the campervan – it measures 1.80m by 72cm with a height of 77cm. There’s access to the gas and fresh water tank (a generous 110 litres) on the nearside and the leisure battery on the offside and, for even more stowage capacity, the end of the mattress can be tipped to vertical to create a full-height garage.

Single beds

Back inside, the bedroom is no less impressive. The beds, with Bultex mattresses sitting on plastic springs, are both 1.90m long and promise top-notch comfort. Their design, with one mattress section accounting for most of the beds (which are just singles at the foot) is another big plus – you have a bed width of 1.81m along 1.38m of the mattress length!

The large step between the beds makes access super-easy, too, but it’s also the perfect height to take your socks off as you sit on the beds.

The V630J’s appeal doesn’t end there. The half-dinette lounge feels quite spacious and seating comfort is way better than the norm for this type of campervan. The Combi boiler resides under the travel seat.

Kitchen with choice of fridge size

The kitchen – located partway across the sliding door – is typical of fixed bed campervans, with its two-burner hob and sink combination and a folding flap to give you essential worktop but we liked the on-trend strips of wood on the side of the fridge and the fact that the latter is mounted at waist height for easy access.

A 90-litre compressor cooler is standard with the option to have a 138-litre version, while an oven can also be added (something that can’t be added in some rivals). Kitchen drawers also offer plenty of storage.

Clever washroom

Opposite the galley, the Pilote’s washroom sees more clever design, although this isn’t a new feature. The tip-up basin saves space but its backless design could waste water. However, the slide-away bench cassette toilet is very neat, giving you lots of extra floor space when showering.

Indeed, this is a very good size for a shower in a panel van and there’s no curtain to get tangled up in. Washroom storage is good, too, with half of it hidden behind a sliding mirror and all of it kept secure with elasticated straps.

Also as an Évidence model

Priced from £68,400 in standard trim, the Vega V630J is one of a select few models that’s also offered in Évidence spec – that’s sure to be the one to have, with increased spec and greater value from £76,700.
