Would any other mainstream manufacturer be this brave? A baby blue campervan with orange go-faster stripes and 18in black alloy wheels – it’s sure to get you noticed. They’ve even added wheelarch extensions, like a GTI from the 1980s.
It’s not the only colour scheme. You can have Arancio Sicilia (metallic orange) or Verde Mugello (green with bronze wheels) as an alternative to this Azzurro Capri – each colour palette has a motor sport-inspired theme, this one being inspired by the Gulf Petroleum racing colours.
For a keen £71,800 price, this campervan looks a million dollars in a sea of white and grey rivals, but it also comes with premium touches like flush habitation windows and practical features like a flyscreen on the sliding door. More importantly, it has the 180hp engine and eight-speed automatic gearbox as standard, so you can still behave a little like a boy racer, even if those days are a distant memory.
There are very few extras to consider, although the overcab Skyview sunroof fitted here is one, priced at £1,490. You can’t have that if you need the extra berths provided by the pop-top, which is typically pricey at £5,220.
Bright orange upholstery!
Open the sliding door and suddenly the exterior seems plain, modest even. Staring you in the face here is an upholstery so bright, so orange that the man from Del Monte would feel right at home! If it’s too much for your retinas, the other exteriors have less arresting interiors.
Other than the seat colour, which contrasts with the green worktops and cream cupboard doors, the Kosmo Supremo is conventional in a thoroughly continental fashion. There’s a half-dinette lounge, central galley and washroom, and a transverse rear double bed. It’s all fitted into a 5.99m Fiat Ducato panel van.
Rear bedroom
The rear bed measures 1.90m by 1.33m but, despite the leather headboard panels at either end, the top lockers stop you sitting up. There are reading lights, though, and the top cupboards are shaped with a bit of Italian flair.
Of course, as well as sleeping comfort, you choose a layout like this for storage and the under-bed space is large and practical. It measures 1.34m by 89cm and is 73cm high, but it’s super easy to slide back the central bed slats and remove the front panel to the garage and then you have van-like space – loading right into the living area and up to the ceiling.
For once, the space isn’t interrupted by impractical, inaccessible drawers and cupboards, although it’s good to see that the water tank is inboard – and a good size (100 litres).
Practical galley
There’s more of that sensible planning in the kitchen, which has three supersized drawers and a waist-height 84-litre compressor fridge. There’s no oven option but you could stow a Remoska or an air fryer in the base of the wardrobe (below the fridge).
The washroom is well-planned, too. There may be a shortfall in storage but there’s plenty of room to use the swivel toilet and the wooden duckboard shows that costs have not been pared back. Pull the smart round basin and its mirror wall to the left and your loo room becomes a shower, with good space, no clingy curtain and even a neat sliding panel to protect the window and its blind.
As well as its bold aesthetics, the Kosmo Supremo is about offering great value. So, included in the price are all the modern driver assistance systems, a leather steering wheel, front fog lamps, electric parking brake, a 9in Pioneer multimedia display, full LED headlights, diesel heating (Truma Combi), full insulation (including the doors) with Alu-Ecofiber and XPS in the floor and roof, a large rooflight over the lounge and a soft-touch padded ceiling. All you need to decide is which colour scheme you like best!

Our Verdict
If you’re bored with white or grey as campervan colours, Laika’s Kosmo Supremo offers a bold splash of Italian flair. Not only that but with the 180hp engine and automatic gearbox as standard, it looks great value for money.
