New campervan launch

German campervan brand Westfalia has announced new models for the 2027 season with a special edition Sven Hedin and a new range.

The Sven Hedin was launched on the VW LT in 1976 and so the coming season sees a fiftieth anniversary edition.

It will also be available as a Classic and Premium specification. The Classic gets the 2-litre engine with 140hp and a six-speed manual gearbox while the Premium has the 163hp unit with eight speed auto and LED headlights.

You can also specify the Premium Plus Package and leather upholstery on the higher-spec models along with an Energy Plus Package which includes 300Ah lithium battery, 3kW inverter, 80A booster and charger and a 120W solar panel. All terrain tyres, 18in wheels and wheel arch extensions are available  for a more rugged look.

The 50th Anniversary Edition model is based on the Premium kit, but comes with the Premium Plus Package, the Multimedia, 120W solar panel, Westfalia connect app, two 100Ah lithium batteries, special paint with retro decals and a 70s inspired upholstery scheme.

This will be available in Europe for €99,990, but UK prices are yet to be confirmed.

The new Nansen range

The coming year will also see a new range called Nansen, named after the Norwegian polar explorer, Fridtjof Nansen. There will be two new models, 600L and 640LS, based on the Fiat Ducato.

Both models will get the 140hp engine and eight speed automatic gearbox with a white exterior finish as standard. This can be upgraded to the 160hp or 180hp with grey and blue exterior colour options. You can also order the Nansen Pack (£1,280) which features a 150Ah lithium battery, reversing camera, flyscreen for the side door, awning light, leather steering wheel, 16in alloys and an electric step.

A 4 Seasons Pack is also available for £2,190. This adds a Skyview panoramic roof, awning, 160W solar panel, roller blinds and two outdoor chairs.

The 600L has a transverse double bed (1.90m by 1.30m) and removable bunk (1.85m by 1.30m) above; the lower bed can also be removed to increase the rear storage area when needed. However, it’s the washroom which is different as there is a separate shower opposite the toilet, with doors that can shut off the front and rear.

The kitchen has a 90-litre compressor fridge that can be opened from both sides and a two-burner gas hob. This Nansen 600L is priced from £67,490 and will be available to order from September.

The second Nansen model, called 640LS, features a lengthways double bed (1.90m by 1.50m) that can be raised and lowered at the touch of a button. When lifted away to the ceiling the rear storage area is 1.60m high, while the lowest position means the bed is just 66cm off the floor.

There’s sliding doors on the side that reveal a big wardrobe. The washroom has a swing wall to create a separate shower space. This model has a 157-litre compressor fridge.

The price for the 640LS starts at £69,990, again available from September.

What else is new for 2027?

The Mercedes-based James Cook models will also be available in Classic and Premium specification and can be ordered with a digital interior rear-view mirror and a Clesana toilet. The Club Joker Urban, on the Ford Transit Custom, can be ordered with a new aqua blue paint and sees changes to the kitchen unit for the coming year.

The Ford Transit Custom-based Kipling with its transverse rear bed, adopts new two-tone upholstery, integrated blinds for the cab and a new generation of Eberspächer heater. Prices will start from £63,090.

The classic side kitchen Kelsey will get a 240-degree opening roof canvas, and the changes also seen in the Kipling, priced from £63,090.
