Swift Trekker
We all have slightly different ideas as to what is cool, so our judging team had to deploy its cool-ometer here, influenced not just by our own tastes but those of the folk we meet when out testing campervans. The reaction from those on the road and on the campsite often tells you all you need to know.
The Trekker has the looks of a £200k off-road adventure van, without the cost or complexity. In fact, the price is £72,995, but we’re not talking value for money, we’re talking about design. This is the most exciting campervan Swift has ever launched, with the looks to go with it. From the on-trend pale grey paintwork to the black alloys and map-like graphics, it shouts fun. It’s cohesive, too, with black repeated on the side mouldings, awning and trims around the windows. Then, flashes of yellow stop it being monotone.
Open the sliding door and it would have been easy for the exterior to write 4x4-alike cheques that the interior couldn’t cash. However, the inside is as strikingly styled as the outside, with yellow stitching and logos on the seats tying in with the graphics.
Zipped storage pockets, the ceiling lights, and a slatted screen between galley and bedroom show that Swift’s designers thought out of the box, too. This may be another fixed bed campervan, based on the same Ford Transit as you see delivering your Amazon order, but somehow Swift has managed to give it a much, much more adventurous vibe that says surfboards and skiing holidays, not school runs and Sainsbury’s (though it can do that, too!).
