Bürstner Habiton HM 6.0

The showstopper at last September’s Caravan Salon Düsseldorf was the Habiton. Bürstner’s new campervan sets out to achieve the near-impossible.

Its design brief was to fit the typical European fixed single bed layout (which normally resides in a 6.36m-long Fiat Ducato) into the slimmer, shorter Mercedes van.

On the outside, this is a 5.93m panel van with a choice of six exterior colours (the minty green is quite brave!) and either rear or all-wheel drive.

But it’s the inside that matters and, here, the usual half-dinette bench seat slides and folds (with the table rising vertically) to allow the patented washroom to also slide forward on its floor-mounted rails.

Moving your ablutions then creates more room in the bedroom, where the single bed mattress simply unfolds into the space vacated by the washroom. It’s remarkably simple to use and makes for incredibly clever double use of the space.

The washroom itself has more clever tricks, including a foldaway basin and a loo that disappears for extra showering space. You can choose your toilet, too – standard cassette, Trelino (composting) or Clesana (bag system).

We’ve never seen anything quite like this before!
