Full review

One of three new models in the 6 Series line-up of low-profiles for 2018, the 655F is a little brother to the existing 666F. It, too, has twin single beds over a garage but overall length has been cut from 7.49m to a more modest 6.94m.

Like the other models in this range, it gets a new overcab moulding, revised graphics, more flowing furniture with backlighting, high-density foam for the lounge seating, a new kitchen sink, a bathroom drying rack and improved mattresses as part of the 2018 season updates. You can still choose between Castello (shown) and more traditional Elegance furniture, while there’s also a selection of seven upholsteries.

It’s a three-berth as standard but can be a four-berth with the optional drop-down single bed over the lounge. British market models include a free UK Pack of Truma gas/electric heating, a gas oven and living area carpets. The £1,650 Select Pack then adds a rear view camera, Kenwood multi-media unit, passenger airbag, cruise control, heated mirrors, height-adjustable cab seats, cab blinds, speakers in the living area, a cooker hood, Duo automatic gas inverter and a window, flyscreen and bin for the habitation door.

Despite the model’s relatively compact size, it still feels spacious, thanks to the light-coloured cabinetwork and 2.12m headroom. There’s a small step in the floor from the cab to the lounge but the L-settee is much more comfortable for relaxing on than many of its rivals and the small side seat is a perfect footrest for the swivelled driver’s seat (RHD). Scatter cushions are provided in different sizes and styles, while the fixed table doesn’t dominate.

Entry to the vehicle is easy, thanks to a low internal step. As you enter, the TV is located in an ideal position on your left – this also being the side of the tall/slim fridge (with small oven above on UK vehicles). The remainder of the galley is in a compact L-shape backing onto the rear travel seat. It comes with good drawer space, while the three-burners-in-line hob leaves a small area of worktop. An illuminated spice rack and chromed light switches and power points add a dash of bling.

A sliding door separates the lounge/kitchen from the en suite bedroom and the facilities here have not suffered as a result of the sub-7m length. The shower (nearside) is hidden behind a solid door – open this and the curved toilet door and the two join together to close off the bathing facilities from the bedroom. The shower itself is a decent size and the toilet room is adequate, even when used in isolation. Generous bathroom storage includes a sliding mirror with elasticated retainers to keep your toiletries in order.

But the most important aspects here are the beds – 1.97m and 1.87m long with Bultex mattresses on slatted frames. There’s an attractive quilted headboard but overhanging cupboards still restrict sitting up. Underneath, the garage has its larger loading door on the offside, an internal height of 1.20m and a maximum weight limit of 150kg.
