The Florium motorhome range starts with the 2.33m-wide Baxter low-profiles (five models) in lengths from 5.99m up to 7.35m. Then come the wider (2.34m) Mayflower models, starting with this 6.50m 65 LCX – a brand-new addition to the range this year, taking the line-up to six layouts (of which four have island beds)

As a 6.5m motorhome with a true island bed, the new Mayflower sits in a rarefied field where compact size and a good bedroom are the USPs.

It’s an appealing bedroom, too, with good access around the central 1.88m by 1.41m mattress. There’s a single step up in the bedroom on either side of the bed, while bedside wardrobes and flat surfaces for drinks, etc, are in the usual style.

Net curtains feature on the bedroom windows and there’s a small roof vent over the bed. Cushions match the bed cover and reading lights are of the flexible wand type.

At the foot of the bed is the washroom, accessed via a wide-opening tambour door. Inside, the white basin sits on a plinth with a toothbrush mug adjacent and a large, framed mirror above. Alongside the cassette toilet is a tall storage unit for your toiletries and cosmetics. A screen can pull across to separate the bedroom and bathroom from the rest of the ’van.

Opposite, the kitchen is a straight unit running aft of the habitation door. The galley does well to include so much storage – in a trio of super-sized drawers. Worktop is less generous but a flip-up surface across the doorway overcomes the paucity.

The hob has just two burners, although it comes with an extractor hood above, while the fridge (to the rear of the galley, or the right as you face it) is a tall, slim version for maximum capacity. It is hoped that a small oven can be added above for the UK market.

Up front, the L-shaped lounge is not large but the seats are shaped to give extra support and the grey fabric here (Poivre/Jersey) is matched to light Cedre cabinetwork, enhancing the feeling of space.

An overcab sunroof lets light into the area and the single-leg table is height-adjustable and can pull out far enough from the wall to serve both cab seats.

Basis of the 65 LCX is a Fiat Ducato with the lowered camping-car chassis and 130bhp engine. Spec includes cab air-conditioning, cab carpet and remote central locking (including the habitation door). Options include alloy wheels and cruise control.

In the living area you’ll find large water tanks of 120 litres (fresh) and 119 litres (waste), as well as space for two 13kg gas cylinders and a 100Ah leisure battery. Heating is by Truma Combi 4.
