Full review

Dreamer's Fun range is all available with sub-£50k pricing. But where the Camper Five above is a campervan for family fun, the D42 is a compact model (almost a metre shorter) for couples.

In typical continental van conversion style it has a fixed bed layout, but what’s unusual here is that it’s a (lengthways) French bed rather than a transverse mattress. Not only that, but Dreamer has squeezed it into a medium-wheelbase Ducato van for maximum manoeuvrability.

In this 5.41m camper you’ll find a conventional half-dinette lounge with swivel cab chairs and a pair of rear seatbelts. The table has an extension leaf so that four can dine if you have guests.

The kitchen may be compact but it still includes a 90-litre fridge, while the washroom alongside the bed has a shower, swivel loo and fixed basin. Water comes from a 100-litre inboard tank while the heating system is Truma’s excellent diesel-powered Combi.

The wardrobe is suspended over the foot of the bed and there’s generous storage (easily reached through the back doors) beneath the bed, which can also be folded up to get larger loads on board. Mattress measurements are claimed as 1.90m by 1.20m but it’s quite a bit narrower at the foot.
