The Chausson 640 was one of the undoubted stars of the 2019 season. So much so that the French company has decided to build on its success with three new, closely related layouts. Reducing overall length from 6.99m to 6.39m seems to create remarkably few downsides in the new 650 layout, while those seeking a truly compact coachbuilt can seek out the new 520.
But it’s the family-friendly 720 that’s really won us over. Here is another unique Chausson motorhome – and one that’s just bursting with appeal. Like its sister models, the new 720 has the company’s Smart Lounge design with face-to-face settees that can be converted into travel seats, a large drop-down double bed, a spacious end washroom and a garage.
Importantly, there’s also a choice of Ford Transit or Fiat Ducato chassis, as well as the possibility of upspeccing via VIP and Premium Packs. Better still, the 720 can also be ordered as a Titanium model (from £54,560, as shown) with added kit, grey exterior walls and Ford’s automatic gearbox as standard. UK spec also includes the Triplex cooker with oven/grill.
New features common to all Maxi Lounge models are a wider ‘XL’ habitation door with two-point locking and Isofix for child seats. Uniquely, though, the 720 can offer travel seats and berths for five, with the nearside settee converting into one forward and one rearward-facing travel seat.
Just as clever is the arrangement at the rear. The voluminous washroom is no surprise but also incorporated into this area are the Easy Box storage system, height-adjustable garage and a pair of now-you-see-them, now-you-don’t bunk beds. Even if camping with kids isn’t in your plans, when just the lower single bed is deployed here, it makes an ideal (and private) day bed.
