Lancashire-based Axon Motorhomes is headed up by Chris Axon, and the company has been building campervans since 2017. The Axon range is now three-strong, consisting of its flagship Opportunity (a two-berth model based on the Citroën Relay), the Curiosity (a compact Nissan NV200 camper), and the Sprit, as seen here.

Based on the extra-long-wheelbase Citroën Relay, the Axon Spirit has been designed with families in mind, as it offers travel seats and accommodation for four.

The front lounge makes clever use of space as, when in travel mode, there are two single forward-facing belted seats here, one on either side of the vehicle.

Once parked up at the campsite, the single seat on the driver’s side then converts into a lengthways settee.

Combined with the other rear travel seat and, by swivelling the passenger cab one (the driver’s seat also rotates), there is ample seating for four to relax in the lounge, or dine at the free-standing table.

Come bedtime, the sitting arrangements make up into a double bed (said to measure 1.89m x 1.40m) for mum and dad.

For the kids, there are a pair of widthways removable bunk beds at the back of the campervan.  That said, these bunks are claimed to be 1.89m long, so they’ll certainly accommodate most adults, too, meaning this campervan could be ideal for couples that like to go away occasionally with friends, for example.

Each bunk benefits from having a personal USB port and reading light in the corner, as well as some storage space above. The top bunk features a safety rail and is accessed via a ladder.

Ahead of this area, there's the kitchen, which is pretty well appointed, too, having a Triplex three-burner hob and oven, a microwave, a stainless-steel sink with glass lid and mixer tap, and a full-size Thetford AES 130-litre fridge/freezer opposite, adjacent to the washroom.

There's a good amount of worktop space atop a bank of drawers and cupboards, and overhead lockers, too. There’s also LED lighting and a pair of 230V sockets, an opening window and a Midi Heki rooflight.

The washroom, accessed through a tambour door, provides all the home comforts, too.

There’s a tip-up washbasin with a mixer tap, which cleverly provides some storage space behind for toothbrushes and a bar of soap. There’s also a shower, and a Thetford toilet with electric flush. LED lights and a Micro Heki rooflight provides ventilation and lighting.

Also included as standard are features such as a Truma Combi 4 E heating and hot water system, a TV socket and digital aerial, a 100Ah leisure battery and 110W solar panel with dual charge controller, external barbecue point, 20-litre LPG tank, 91-litre fresh water tank and 60-litre waste water tank, to name but a few things.

If you’d like to customise your Spirit, there’s a range of optional extras to choose from, too, such as an awning, bike rack, Avtex TV, additional leisure battery and solar panel, etc.

The Axon Spirit is priced from £36,490, which is for a conversion based on a used Citroën Relay L4H2 with 2.2-litre HDi engine. Alternatively, the Spirit is available on a Peugeot Boxer or Fiat Ducato.

All base vehicles are sourced up to four years old with a maximum of 50,000 miles recorded, and come with a new MoT and a two-year insurance-backed mechanical breakdown warranty. The new conversion also has a two-year warranty.

The Axon Motorhomes lowdown

The company has its premises in the Rossendale Valley, east Lancashire, where it builds and sells its campervans.

The business is owned and run by Chris Axon, who comes from a background in mechanical engineering. After working for 12 years in the motorhome industry, being responsible for design and build elements, Chris decided to set up as an independent converter, back in 2017.

Since then, the company has developed a range of campervans, with its Nissan NV200-based Curiosity being the most recent addition, having joined the line-up in 2020. You can see all its campervans both at its premises and at a range of UK shows.
