SPRITE was famous for producing value for money touring caravans which were durable, reliable, and had well proven towing qualities too, setting many a high speed towing record.

The latest model in the revised Sprite line-up, the Alpine 2, was conceived in response to public demand. Originally intended as a smaller two-berth end kitchen model, it was finally designed as an end washroom two-berth in a compact shell of just 4.34m long.

The latest Sprite takes much from the lines of the 2006 range but now has the new high-impact sides and brand new graphics. Step inside the Alpine and you are greeted by the classic two-berth end washroom layout.

The front dinette makes up two singles or a double bed, then there’s a central offside kitchen with dresser opposite and an end washroom, complete with full-length wardrobe and shower area.

The new Sprite features the same light oak finish on the furniture as used in the highly successful Abbey Vogue, but with matt chrome edgings.

This makes the Sprite feel more up-market and a whole lot brighter, too. Roof lockers are deep and also run fully around the Alpine. We liked the two mains lights and four well-placed spots over the front dinette, as well as the position of the clock and the wiring provided for a radio.

Seating is comfortable with a modern pattern and smart, chunky scatter cushions. It’s perfectly spacious, so entertaining a couple of friends shouldn’t prove to be a squeeze.

The kitchen is well planned and provides a decent worktop, as well as the 107-litre fridge that’s fitted in the more expensive Swift Group ranges.

Step into the rear end washroom and the Alpine proves its worth again; there’s a super shower cubicle with smart chrome finish shower head and Perspex framed doors give the impression that the Sprite is more expensive than the price may suggest.

Verdict:

We’re really pleased to see the Sprite badge remain true to the value for money concept upon which the brand was built - because it’s a name so many remember with affection.

The Alpine 2 tested here is a testament to the Sprite philosophy: it offers good quality fittings, good specification and design that most age groups will feel comfortable with.
