The Elddis Avanté 860 is an eight-feet-wide caravan with an entirely separate bedroom at the rear, separated from the day area by a centrally located shower room.

One of three eighty-feet wide models in the Elddis Avanté range, the 860 has a bedroom at the rear of the caravan, in a room that is entirely separate of the rest of the caravan.

The double bed is aligned across the caravan, with wardrobes on both sides, a dressing table in the offside corner and two windows, one at the rear and one on the offside, to ensure this cosy, luxurious bedroom is light and bright.

Washing

The feature of the layout that separates the bedroom from the kitchen and lounge is the configuration of the washing facilities, which span the width of the caravan, immediately forward of the bedroom.

A sliding door divides the bedroom from the shower, on the nearside, and the separate toilet and washbasin compartment on the offside. The hinged door of the toilet-washbasin 'room' opens across the caravan to close off the showering, washing and bedroom function from the rest of the caravan.

Kitchen

The kitchen, like the washing facilities, spans the width of the caravan, with the tower-style fridge-freezer on the nearside and the microwave above it, and the main kitchen units opposite. There's a hinged extension to augment surface space when you need it.

The sink is large and circular, with a raised cover which matches the kitchen surface. Storage elements include a large cabinet and drawers alongside it. There's also a cabinet alongside the fridge-freezer.

Comfort and control

Avantés have the Whale 4.3kW blown air heating system with Whale's iVan touchscreen control. The water heater is the Whale Expanse eight-litre underslung unit.

This range has AL-KO's ATC Trailer Control System as standard; it detects and controls the first sign of a snaking motion. They also have receivers for the optional AL-KO Diamond Standard wheel locks. For £605 you get both locks plus a jack, to raise the second wheel so that you can rotate it to get the receiver in an exact position between the spokes to enable you to fit the lock.

Fitting one lock is easy; you can do this while the caravan is still hitched to the car, by precise positioning so that the receiver appears between spokes.

The 860 is a four-berth; you can make a double bed in the lounge by drawing out a webbing-linked slatted base from beneath the central chest of drawers. The bed is 1.43m wide and 2.12m long. You can use the lounge as single beds; they're 1.88m long. The fixed double bed at the rear is 1.34m wide and 1.90m long.

Verdict

Luxuriously spacious, being 19cm wider than standard-width Avanté models, this four-berth with a separate bedroom is a great choice if space is your goal yet you want a caravan that, for a twin-axle, is remarkably light, at 1650kg MTPLM.
