Motorhomes with end kitchens often appeal to buyers who want to cook in comfort, so expect to find these kitchen equipped with full ovens, grills and at least a three-burner hob. They should also have a large fridge. This design is mainly found in coachbuilt motorhomes, although it is possible to get an end kitchen in a van conversion campervan. If you opt for one with a large front lounge also, you may find the washroom size has been compromised, so check you are happy with the space.At a glance
The pros and cons of an end kitchen motorhome layout are:
- Compact layout attracts many
- Leaves room for large lounges at the front, which are more sociable
- There are lots of examples available to suit most budgets
- Storage for bulky items can be lacking
- Generally there are no rear travel seats
- Washroom space can be limited

End kitchen motorhomes are often found in British-made motorhomes but have dropped out of fashion in recent times
But, if you want a spacious, well equipped kitchen, then a motorhome that has an end kitchen, which is fitted transversely across the back, may just be the option for you. However, some motorhomes also have the washroom in the rear corner, which does impact on the kitchen workspace.
In a motorhome where both the kitchen and the washroom are on the rear wall, you'll need to check that it is all useable. For example, if one of you is cooking, can the other squeeze through to the loo? And is there sufficient worktop space?Often the habitation door will be next to an end kitchen on the nearside wall.
There will nearly always be an area next to the door housing the fridge and extra worktop space.
All of the the British manufacturers still make motorhomes with end kitchens as well as many of the Continental makes.
