Allerton Park

Set amid pine woodland, adjacent to Allerton Castle, the park is just 10 minutes’ drive from Knaresborough and 15 minutes from Harrogate.

Allerton Park’s location makes it ideal for exploring the medieval town of Knaresborough, that sits on inland cliffs above the River Nidd. There’s a weekly market in the town. Knaresborough is well known for its good choice of eateries, its niche shops and its riverside promenade – and also the spectacular viaduct than spans the river gorge. Knaresborough is famous as the home of England’s oldest visitor attraction, the mystical Mother Shipton’s Cave and Petrifying Well, which has been open since 1630, and tells of the legend of water turning objects to stone.

Cawood Park

With its own lake, and set alongside the River Wharfe, Cawood Park is 10 miles south of York, on the edge of Cawood village. The park has an indoor swimming pool, shop, a restaurant (with lake views and a terrace) serving food from breakfast through to supper, and a bar; and entertainment takes place here at weekends.

The park’s location makes trips to the coast easy, as well as exploring the magnificent city of York many times over. Having a lodge at Cawood, you’d be on the doorstep to discover this vibrant city’s Viking and Roman history, its museums, river cruises, the Shambles Market, the National Railway Museum and, of course, York Minster. There are several park and ride routes starting from various points on the edge of the city, making visiting York easy.

Weir Park

This park is located on an island, alongside a weir, it’s bordered by a river and a canal and has its own bridge. Fishing is an attraction at this park, which is a haven for wildlife.

It’s just over eight miles from York, and is close to the village of Stamford Bridge, which is spectacularly divided into two areas by the River Derwent. This is the site of the Battle of Stamford Bridge that marked the end of the Viking era in Britain. The village is known for its good choice of restaurants and bars.

Weir Park has won awards under the David Bellamy Conservation Awards scheme, for protecting and enhancing nature and for its hedgerows. It’s also certified by the scheme as being bee friendly.
