Runway closure leads to more park homes

Closure of the runway at RAF Lyneham means that the adjoining Lillybrook residential park-home estate at Lyneham in Wiltshire has been able to develop 10 new plots.

That’s in addition to residents benefitting from the absence of noise caused by aircraft landing and taking off.

RAF Lyneham was the Royal Air Force base where aircraft landed carrying the bodies of servicemen killed in Afghanistan and Iraq. The resulting funeral processions through nearby Royal Wootton Bassett attracted national publicity.

The new plots at Lillybrook are the latest in a series of developments marking the transition of what, nearly 50 years ago, was a pig and poultry farm into a state-of-the-art 21st residential park-home estate.

The latest development brings the total number of homes at Lillybrook to 127, mostly twin units. Three quarters have parking alongside and most, garages.

Modern technology is evident on this park in the specifications of the latest homes here with their extra-high levels of insulation, LED lighting, heating by air-sourced heat pump and rainwater harvesting systems.

Four of the new plots are still available, able to accommodate homes up to 48x20 with guideline prices starting at £154,750. Plot fees are £118.75 per calendar month. Minimum age is 50. No dogs are allowed.
