Abbey offers 21st century park-home lifestyle

It doesn’t sound like a residential park home fit for the 21st-century but that’s exactly what Blunsdon Abbey is.

Started in the mid 1950s, it lies in the grounds of a Victorian mansion which was destroyed by fire and never rebuilt. The ruins of the Abbey form a magnificent backdrop to the 20-acre park.

In 1997, Blunsdon was taken over by Pine View Parks, a business with a seven-strong chain of residential estates run by the Griffin family. Those are now home to around 1,000 people in almost 600 park homes, all in pleasant, rural settings.
The flagship is Blunsdon Abbey.

Located near Swindon in Wiltshire, it has been redeveloped since the Griffins took over in 1997: new electrics, drainage, lighting, access roads, gas supply, landscaping.

Last year part of the park was redeveloped, with 12 of the oldest homes being replaced with eight state-of-the-art twin units. They have garages alongside as well as block-paved drives.

There are 85 homes sited in total although the licence allows for 112. The planned development of a previously-unused area will add more plots in the not-too-distant future.

The location of Blunsdon, sloping in parts, offers views over Swindon towards the hills of Liddington Castle. The surrounding land is a mixture of open fields and woodland with pockets of housing.

Plot fees are £166 per calendar month. Minimum age is 50. Pets are allowed.   Guideline price for a new 40ftx22 Tingdene Barnwell is £190,000.
