SHADOW Minister for Tourism, Tobias Ellwood, was given first-hand experience of holiday parks on a recent visit to Haven’s five-star Rockley Park at Poole in Dorset.

The Conservative MP for Bournemouth East spent more than 90 minutes checking out its facilities.

Haven Operations Director Geoffrey Smith and General Manager Graham Plant gave him the full park tour, including the new £2m spa for use by holiday home owners and Woodland Falls, a gated development of eight luxury lodges.

It was the first time the MP has visited a holiday park and Mr Smith gave him a broad overview of the company and the caravan park industry in general as well as highlighting many of Rockley’s particular features.

During the tour Mr Ellwood was introduced to one of Rockley’s holiday home owners, Jenny Chambers.

Jenny, who travels to Rockley every weekend from her home in Leicester, has stunning views across Poole harbour from her caravan, which she has owned for seven years.

Mr Ellwood acknowledged that tourism is Britain’s fifth biggest industry and is hugely important both for incoming visitors to the UK and Britons making the most of our own wonderful beaches, countryside and attractions.
