Park Review: Orton Grange Residental Park

f5a0cc6a-e12f-4168-9c9f-8dc4fd40f88a

Orton Grange has a wide, imposing entrance, with traditional lamp-posts, lawns and a gravelled area where flowers and shrubs are nicely displayed in pots and feature boxes.

A spectacular fountain comes into view as you go along the drive to approach the parkland area of mature trees and lawns around which the homes are sited. This is a magnificent estate, with homes set at different angles. Close to the fountain, and overlooking the park’s central lawn area, stands the showhome, the Orton Gold, slightly elevated, a stunning homestead surrounded by flint chippings, flower beds and honey- coloured paving leading to the steps to the property.

Before going inside the Orton Gold I explored the park. There’s an air of quality and tranquillity everywhere on this park. Many of the plots back onto farmland. Gardening is clearly a hobby which most residents share; the neat results are testimony to this.

The Orton Gold showhome is a fabulous opportunity to buy now but, looking further ahead, there are several plots to be developed at Orton Grange.

So what are the attractions of this region? The retail opportunities and practicalities of Carlisle are little more than 20 minutes away. The spectacular northern Lake District is 20 miles south of here; the coastline is considerably less distance away. And of you fancy exploring Scotland, historic Gretna Green, where there is an outlet shopping centre, is eight miles away and, because of the excellent road network, you can be amid gorgeous Scottish scenery in less than a hour. Days out would be a joy from here!  Closer, character Dalton village, two miles from the park, has pubs and other places serving food. And a farm shop (it’s excellent; I called there after visiting Orton Grange), with a café and even a swimming pool is half a mile away.

Red Rose Orton Gold

I unlock the door of the Orton Gold, just as a prospective buyer would. It’s an impressive entrance hall, rather elegant, with bevelled-edge lead-lights set into the door. The kitchen is ahead. Double doors lead from the hallway to the dining area and lounge.

The lounge, dining area and main bedroom windows overlook the prettiest part of the park. It’s a lovely aspect – and it’s clear to see that Red Rose Homes, which builds a range of park homes, designed the Orton Gold specifically for the park, its elegant cottage styling suits the beautiful countryside setting of the park.

Cream shaker-style furniture combines with bold print wallpaper on feature walls and traditional lounge seating to create a classic look.

More double doors lead from the lounge to a patio area yet to be created for this showhome. In between, the cottage styling and warm reds, with pale fawn and cream tones, creates a beautiful welcoming look.

The focal point is a traditional style log-burning effect stove set into a deep hearth. Above it is an alcove containing an aerial point and two mains sockets; a TV can be mounted on the wall here.

Skylight above the lounge and dining area add to the light, bright aspect created by the five windows.

The cream shaker style of the cabinets and dining suite continues in the kitchen. A feature brick-effect wall, adhering to the cottage theme, is at one end of the rectangular room, above the hob. The super sized cooker, made by Caple, has an oven grill and five-burner hob, the centre one designed to accommodate any size of wok.

We love the Belfast sink inset into the light oak worktop. A dishwasher is integrated into the cabinet, along with a fridge-freezer and a 10-bottle wine rack.

The main bedroom has a two-wardrobe dressing corridor leading to an en suite bathroom with over-bath shower. Floor-to-ceiling tiles in pale grey gloss stone effect create a luxurious, high-end look, together with a heated towel rail and beautifully crafted cabinet and basin suite.

The Orton Gold also has a shower room, identical in styling, with both a rainfall and directional shower head.

A new lifestyle and with more money in the bank!

The financial advantages of making a move from bricks-and-mortar to a park home is glowingly underlined by the current opportunity at Orton Grange. The Red Rose Orton Gold has been reduced to a very special price, because it’s the showhome, now to £135,000. It was previously £145,000. At £135,000 it’s among the lowest-priced luxury-class park homes we’ve seen in a long time Ð a golden opportunity to be better off by going for the park lifestyle; the chances are, if you’re selling a house that’s worth a lot more than that, you’ll have chunks of money to put in the bank. And Red Rose has a part-exchange scheme to speed and ease the moving process.

Our view

The Orton Gold is a residence of modern cottage style with bright airy appeal. We love the fine touches of detail, the snowdrop shaped white bedside lamps with ‘crystal’ leaves; the mirrored sliding wardrobe doors in the second bedroom and the bold red and white birds and leaves design that appears on the Roman blinds in the bathrooms and kitchen plus the feature wall of the lounge. At £135,000 and with a high level of obvious quality, this showhome appears to us to be astounding value.
