A serene country park in the Vale of Clwyd and a family holiday centre close to the seaside in North Wales.
Words by Val Chapman
This prestige park is a place to choose for your holiday home if you yearn for relaxation and serenity. It's in beautiful countryside, a retreat that's complete with its own restaurant (which opened in 2017) and a spectacular swimming pool. In winter you can relax over coffee in traditional leather armchairs and settees that furnish the old hall's lounge.
Eryl Hall has a spectacular new conservatory extension, where events are held for holiday home owners.
The park is in an elevated location overlooking St Asaph, famous for its cathedral, the smallest in Britain, dating to AD560. It's a little-known fact that St Asaph is a city; the status was granted by the Queen as part of her Diamond Jubilee celebrations in 2012.
St Asaph is on the banks of the River Elwy, six miles from Rhyl and six miles from Denbigh, in the Vale of Clwyd. It's a brilliant place for exploring the Welsh coast and the hinterland – when you're not enjoying the tranquillity of the park itself, a dip in the pool or a session in the park's own gym. There's a poolside café, a pool table, an adventure play area and a convenience shop.
This park has a 10.5-month season and is open over Christmas and New Year. All this in the parkland grounds of an elegant country house, and with a programme of activities arranged for you that includes 80s' and 90s' nights, sweepstakes, Easter egg hunts, race nights, dog shows, Vegas weekends and charity 5k runs.
In common with all Lyons holiday parks, owners here can enjoy discounted admission to 33 local attractions and facilities, through Lyons' Owners Select scheme. These include Llanberis Lake Railway, family golf on Llandudno's Great Orme, indoor karting, a slate works, kite surfing and even hair, nail and beauty salons.
Typically, holiday homes for sale at Eryl Hall span a wide price spectrum. Pre-owned holiday homes are often on offer, the results of owners updating to newer models.
Prices of used homes often start at £14,995 and rise to £49,995, for a luxury ABI Westwood, for example.
Lyons holiday parks span the length of the North Wales coast from Conwy to Prestatyn.
The eight holiday home parks in this region owned by the Lyons family company between them offer something for all tastes. For our Spring issue we visited Pendyffryn Hall at Conwy and the Robin Hood centre of family fun at Rhyl.
This time, the focus is on Lyons Eryl Hall and Lyons Oakfield. Eryl Hall is at St Asaph, in Denbighshire, a walled garden development of holiday homes in the grounds of a country hall. Oakfield is close to the beach, at Kinmel Bay, Towyn.
