Park lodge review: Classically Sophisticated

Natural shades, sumptuous comfort, luxury everywhere and an amazing design-statement dining suite. This is a lodge of modern, yet cosy character.

The new-for-2020 Wessex Classic is a sophisticated lodge designed for buyers looking for luxurious surroundings and impressive design features. This lodge’s open-plan living area has a light and airy feel, created by triangular windows above the patio doors on one side and a full-height, triple-panel window on the other.

The ceiling is vaulted and white panelled, enhancing the feeling of space. Classic in name and nature, furnishings are simple in style, with an understated country theme and a calming, very appealing colour scheme of soft neutral shades.

The lounge seating is sumptuous – two big settees upholstered in a ‘stone’ shade fabric, plus an occasional cosy little chair, with a detailed diamond pattern in the weave. Lots of cushions, in a variety of stone and neutral shades, ensure you can get cosy in this ultra-light and bright lounge.

Curtains in the same diamond pattern as the chair on the front windows and louvred blinds on the side windows keep the whole look plainly classic, as do the oak doors throughout the lodge. Amid the neutral shades that characterise the Classic, there’s a stunning style statement.

The extending dining table goes with handcrafted wicker chairs; their texture and style somehow epitomise the country character of the Classic. And they’re comfortable, as I discovered (briefly!) during my tour of the lodge when it was unveiled in September.

Another of the Classic’s eye-catching features is its breakfast bar, a wide surface that forms a demarcation between the kitchen and dining area, with two beige linen-upholstered bar stools. This is a focal point of the home for coffee or drinks times, and its primary function as a place for breakfast.

The kitchen is also an impressive element of the lodge, with cream high gloss doors that are plainly modern – and its drawers and doors have the refinement of soft-close mechanisms.

Appliances include a washing machine, a dishwasher and a fridge-freezer. The bedroom styling follows the Classic’s country theme, with shaker inspired white dressing tables and bedside cabinets. It has panelled walls, and the palette is soft and neutral. Both the bathroom and en suite feature full-height, pale oak-effect tiling, plus lighting set into each side of the mirrors.

Every area is delightful, but the star of this lodge has to be the lounge and dining area. Everything here exudes comfort, from the cosy lounge sofas to the high-backed wicker chairs around the dining table, which are not only aesthetically pleasing but also offer superior comfort to most dining chairs.

Everything about this room says sit back, relax, and enjoy. The Classic is built to residential standards so is designed for use throughout the year. Five standard sizes are available.

All are 20ft wide. The 36ft, 38ft, 40ft and 45ft versions have two bedrooms; there is also a 42ft version with three bedrooms. Two of the layouts have utility rooms; these are the 40ft and 45ft units.
